Chad Kelly Injury: Updates on Ole Miss QB's Recovery from Hernia Surgery
Ole Miss quarterback Chad Kelly underwent surgery last week to repair a sports hernia, according to Daniel Paulling of the Clarion-Ledger.

Kelly Isn't Expected to Miss Significant Amount of Time
Monday, April 4
While Kelly will miss the remainder of spring practices, the injury isn't expected to sideline him for an extended duration or affect his availability for the team's opening game against Florida State on Sept. 5, according to Paulling.
Kelly, a senior, was excellent for Ole Miss last season, throwing for 4,042 yards, 31 touchdowns and 13 interceptions while completing 65.1 percent of his passes. He also rushed for 500 yards and another 10 scores and led the team to a Sugar Bowl win over Oklahoma State.
His return for the 2016 season was key for a team that lost three huge talents—and upcoming first-round picks in April's NFL draft—in offensive tackle Laremy Tunsil, wide receiver Laquon Treadwell and defensive lineman Robert Nkemdiche. With Kelly under center, the Rebels again have aspirations to be SEC champions.
And Kelly expects big things for himself every time he steps on the field, as he told Tony Barnhart of Gridiron Now:
"I needed to be comfortable with the mindset that I am the best quarterback in the nation and the best on the field on that day. I had the mindset that nobody can stop me… no matter who’s on defense. I knew I had playmakers around me. As long as I took care of the ball and managed the game we were going to win. Just having that mindset flipped the switch.
"
After one of the most dominant seasons in SEC history from a quarterback—and after wins over Alabama, Auburn and LSU—Kelly certainly earned the right to hold that mindset.
Redshirt freshman Jason Pellerin, true freshman Shea Patterson and walk-on Drew Davis will be the team's quarterbacks for the spring practices while Kelly is sidelined.
