Daniel Hamilton Declares for 2016 NBA Draft: Latest Comments and Reaction
After two years with the Connecticut Huskies, guard Daniel Hamilton is going to see how his skills translate to the NBA.
On April 1, CBS Sports' Jon Rothstein reported Hamilton is declaring for the NBA draft.
Hamilton confirmed on Tuesday he would be hiring an agent, per Dom Amore of the Hartford Courant: "I'm not testing the waters or anything like that. I'm all in."
It will be intriguing to see what NBA scouts say to Hamilton. The sophomore did increase his performance in several key categories last season, averaging 12.5 points, 8.9 rebounds and 4.7 assists per game, but he shot just 38.7 percent from the field.
Jason McIntyre of the Big Lead listed Hamilton among the players who could have a Buddy Hield-like rise if they return to school next year.
"Not a good enough shooter yet," he wrote. "Great athlete, creative scorer, but in the new 3-point happy NBA, why not live in the gym for a year, stay in school for his junior year, and potentially become a star in college and become a Top 10 pick? Obviously the decision is made more difficult if his coach leaves for the NBA."
Hamilton's raw talent is going to give him a huge boost in the eyes of NBA scouts, though ESPN.com's Chad Ford did not list him among the top 30 draft-eligible prospects this year.
Hamilton needs to establish himself as a better and more consistent shooter before NBA teams will consider drafting him.
It seems like Hamilton will be a developmental project for a team. It would be a bold risk for a franchise to take, but it could pay huge dividends in the next couple of years.
