Farrell Comments on Holt's Status, Return Date
Monday, June 27
"We talked a lot about his form of concussion and felt like the best way to him to get back to being capable with us is to push forward and stress the intensity, the level of play, because the symptoms aren't going to go away just by sitting around," said manager John Farrell, per Scott Lauber of ESPN.com. "This is a matter of getting active and being aggressive with it, so hopefully everything calibrates within his system."
The "best-case scenario" for Holt's return will be Friday against the Los Angeles Angles, per Farrell.
Holt Making Progress in Recovery
Monday, May 30
Pete Abraham of the Boston Globe reported Holt was taking grounders on the field prior to a game against the Toronto Blue Jays. Abraham noted Holt has "been taking small steps with baseball activities the last few days."
Holt's Versatility Gives Added Value to Red Sox
Holt enjoyed a productive 2015. His performance at the plate dipped in the second half, but he finished with a .280/.349/.379 slash line and drove in 45 runs. One could argue the 27-year-old was the most versatile defender in the league. He occupied all but two positions in the lineup over the course of last year, per Baseball-Reference.com:
| Second Base | 58 |
| Third Base | 33 |
| Right Field | 21 |
| Left Field | 14 |
| Shortstop | 11 |
| First Base | 8 |
| Center Field | 2 |
| Designated Hitter | 1 |
This season hasn't been as kind to Holt, who was hitting .239/.310/.354 in 35 games prior to the injury. He has already surpassed his home run total from 2015 with three, but the rest of his offensive game is scuffling for the otherwise stellar Boston lineup that leads Major League Baseball in runs scored.
