WWE NXT Results: Biggest Winners, Losers and Moments from March 30

Erik BeastonMar 31, 2016

The final stop on the road Friday's TakeOver: Dallas special occurred Wednesday night when NXT presented its weekly WWE Network broadcast from Full Sail University, headlined by a battle between Samoa Joe and Bull Dempsey. One of those heavyweight competitors firmly established himself as one of the biggest winners of the evening.

On a night devoted to putting tag teams like American Alpha and The Revival over ahead of their championship clash on Friday night, it was a series of singles competitors who left the greatest impression on viewers.

"The Lone Wolf" Baron Corbin destroyed enhancement talent Michael Cuellari in impressive fashion, but it was his promo shedding light on his motivations for targeting Austin Aries that earned him "winner" status.

The aforementioned Joe rediscovered his edge, making short work of Dempsey and unleashing on anyone unlucky enough to cross him.

But unlike those two, not everyone could be a winner. One notable loser came out of Wednesday's show, a Superstar whose disappointment in his position on the pecking order has to be mounting at this point.

With TakeOver in sight, these are the prospects who had the most notable night, for better or worse.

Winner: Baron Corbin

The Lone Wolf cut the promo of his career Wednesday night ahead of his match with Austin Aries at TakeOver: Dallas.

For months, Corbin has openly criticized and demeaned wrestlers who have plied their craft in the independent scene. During this week's NXT, Corbin was brilliant, describing the beating he will give Aries and how, when he is finished with him, the former Ring of Honor and TNA Wrestling star can take the photo of Corbin standing over his fallen body and sit next to Virgil at conventions, begging the few fans he has left to buy his autograph.

Baron never appeared uncomfortable. He spoke with conviction, almost as if he believed every word coming out of his mouth. That is the key to an effective promo, something NXT officials appear to have tapped into with Corbin.

He probably will not beat Aries in what amounts to his opponent's first official match in NXT, but Corbin has the opportunity to further establish himself as one of the elite Superstars on the roster.

Loser: Alex Riley

Anyone who has seen Alex Riley compete since returning from injury has witnessed his growth and evolution as an in-ring performer. As good as he has become, it is a surprise to see him so minimized in the grand scheme of things in NXT. He has not been used in any meaningful way during the build to TakeOver: Dallas.

On Wednesday night, Apollo Crews squashed him in two minutes.

Unfortunately, nothing that has happened to this point would seem to suggest that Riley is going to have an expanded role on the brand anytime soon.

A few months back, it looked like all of the losing and disappointment would lead to a heel turn that allowed Riley to properly "rage," a phrase he had used repeatedly in social media posts.

NXT appears to have dropped that angle, as well as any plans for a sustained push.

Winner: Samoa Joe

NXT management has done a phenomenal job of making this road to TakeOver: Dallas about Samoa Joe and his quest for the NXT Championship, currently held by Finn Balor.

The veteran of the squared circle has developed a killer instinct of late, bowling over competition and continuing his assault as a message to his opponent this Friday night. He continued that pattern this week, dismantling Bull Dempsey, choking him out with the Coquina Clutch and refusing to break the hold well after the bell.

Better yet? He attacked the two unnamed guys who tried to pull him off the Bull-Fit competitor, all in defiance of general manager William Regal, who had no choice but to stand by and watch. The brawl with Balor that closed out the show was extraordinary and added to the heat put on the NXT Championship match by Joe's destruction.

After a rough start to his tenure with the brand, including an undefined character and lackluster ring performances, Joe has hit his stride and looks like a champion again. Only time will tell if he actually captures the gold Friday.
