With Some Teams Now Looking Unsure, Is The SEC a Two Trick Pony?
Georgia, South Carolina, Kentucky, Vanderbilt and Tennessee have all floundered in the East and Ole Miss laid a big egg, Arkansas got stomped and Mississippi State while looking better, are still losing.
That leaves Auburn and LSU undefeated, but LSU's close call against Mississippi State and Auburn still being Auburn means that both of them are soon headed for heartache.
So does that leave the SEC with simply being a two trick pony? Has the SEC become what members of that conference have accused other conferences of becoming, a "Big Two"?
Oklahoma State's victory of Georgia early in the season may have helped that argument along initially but a win against a previously undefeated Arizona State may have negated that argument for a while.
With impressive wins in their first four games including top 20 West Virginia, Auburn fans think this has contributed to the SEC's clout this year as well.
Even Vanderbilt is undefeated outside the conference games, as is South Carolina, Arkansas, Kentucky, Ole Miss and Mississippi State. Overall the SEC is dominating out of conference opponents.
Even if it works out that Alabama and Florida once again play for the SEC Championship and the right to play in BCS Title, this clearly does not make the SEC a two trick pony.
The Big 12 is the only conference that can legitimately make the feeblest of arguments to be better that the SEC top to bottom. After this weeks surprising upsets on an undefeated Cal and Penn State, the SEC may soon be the only conference with two undefeated contenders in the chase for the BCS prize.
There are still a lot of unanswered questions remaining to be answered, but we can put to bed the one that asks, is there anybody else in the SEC except for Alabama and Florida.
That question has been answered.
