WWE SmackDown Spoilers: Complete Results and Analysis for March 31

Erik BeastonMar 28, 2016

If you find yourself on the fence regarding whether or not to spend two hours of your time watching WWE SmackDown Thursday night, you can make an informed decision thanks to spoilers for this week's show, brought to you courtesy of our friends over at WrestlingInc.com.

The show, taped on Monday night prior to Raw, figures to heavily feature video packages, pre-taped interviews and live cut-ins to WWE Axxess.

In what amounts to the company's last-ditch effort to sell fans on this weekend's WrestleMania, this week's broadcast is headlined by Dean Ambrose (as usual) and The Wyatt Family's Erick Rowan. The two Superstars are hardly strangers to each other, seemingly doing battle every other week in some form or fashion.

Also in action is AJ Styles, just days from his first dance on The Grandest Stage of Them All with Chris Jericho. His opponent Thursday? The Social Outcasts' Heath Slater, who in no way resembles Jericho other than his love of all things rock 'n' roll.

After an abysmal episode of Raw that did little to sell this year's WrestleMania and more to infuriate fans, this Thursday's show is the company's final opportunity to sway fans.

If the lineup for the broadcast is any indication, WWE is not trying particularly hard.

  • The Social Outcasts cut a promo
  • AJ Styles defeated Heath Slater
  • D-Von Dudley defeated Jimmy Uso
  • Dean Ambrose defeated Erick Rowan

Analysis

There you have it.

WWE continued what has been an uninspired build to the biggest show of the year with an episode of SmackDown so bland and unexciting that they may have been better off not presenting a show at all. Just stick tons of video packages onto the broadcast and rerun old interviews from Roman Reigns; that will make for quality television.

One of the biggest problems WWE makes right out of the gate is that it assumes we care about Heath Slater and The Social Outcasts. Since the crack WWE Creative staff has given the audience so little to love about Slater, Curtis Axel, Bo Dallas and Adam Rose, it is impossible to care one way or the other about them and their entry into the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal.

Since we do not care about them and they are presented an entire level down from AJ Styles, we no longer care about the match, because we know The Phenomenal One is going to win anyway.

The Usos vs. The Dudley Boyz promises to be one of the least exciting matches of the entire WrestleMania card, with both teams stuck in gimmicks that were once entertaining but are now incredibly stale and immensely boring.

Then there is Ambrose, who has cooled significantly since his loss to Triple H at Roadblock. His battle with Rowan should be fun given their many past encounters, but it should not be anything more than the typically good television main event fans have come to expect from Raw and SmackDown.

Do yourself a favor this Thursday night and watch literally anything else on television.
