Rio Ferdinand 'Sat Down' Januzaj After Being Challenged as Best 2-Touch Player

Tom WebbMar 24, 2016

Rio Ferdinand has claimed he was the best two-touch player at Manchester United and that he once told Adnan Januzaj to "sit down" when the youngster attempted to challenge the former England captain for that title.

Ferdinand spent 12 years at Old Trafford, winning six Premier League titles and the UEFA Champions League, among other notable honours. His final season in 2013/14 overlapped with Januzaj's breakthrough at the club under David Moyes.

Talking to Squawka, the former defender explained his special talent:

"

I was named, officially, the best two-touch player, you know like you do keepy-ups. Me and Scholesy, and me and Cristiano used to do it religiously before matches in the changing room.

I used to beat all of them. Scholesy obviously knows that and he wouldn’t tell you otherwise. Me and Cristiano, there used to be those bikes, 10 bikes lined up in a row, and he used to go one side and we’d play two-three touch over them. It used to be blinding.

"

Then along came the Belgian starlet, who was just 18 at the time.

Ferdinand added, "Adnan Januzaj tried to come in when all those guys retired or had left, but he got told to sit down and go back and do a youth training scheme before coming back into the arena."

There's nothing like being a source of inspiration for young players, eh, Rio?
