Gennady Golovkin, Miguel Cotto Claim Made by Kell Brook's Promoter, Eddie Hearn
IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook has been in talks with both Gennady Golovkin and Miguel Cotto about a potential summer fight, according to his promoter, Eddie Hearn.
Brook is set to defend his world title for the third time on Saturday against mandatory challenger Kevin Bizier of Canada.
But Hearn is already looking ahead to bigger things for the unbeaten Sheffield fighter, including potential bouts with middleweight king Golovkin or four-division champ Cotto, per Chris McKenna of the Daily Star:
"HBO have approached us regarding the possibility of fighting Miguel Cotto on June 18 in New York, which we would jump at. But I think Cotto and his team are looking for someone easier on June 18.
I've also in touch with Tom Loeffler, Gennady Golovkin's manager and promoter, regarding the possibility of fighting Golovkin in a catchweight contest at 157 pounds.
"
Brook won the IBF title back in 2014 with a majority-decision victory over Shawn Porter in Carson, California—see highlights below:
He has since beaten Jo Jo Dan and Frankie Gavin to keep hold of his belt but has yet to have the huge fight he craves.
Per McKenna, Hearn also mentioned the likes of Danny Garcia, Jessie Vargas, Manny Pacquiao and Timothy Bradley as potential welterweight opponents for Brook while also revealing the 29-year-old was "devastated to miss out on the [Amir] Khan fight."
A potential Khan-Brook megafight at Wembley had been mooted before the Bolton fighter was announced to be taking on WBC middleweight champion Saul Alvarez in Las Vegas on May 7, per the Guardian's Donald McRae.
Per McRae, Brook said he wants to "destroy" Khan and is still harbouring hopes of meeting his fellow Brit when he has dealt with Bizier.
But Khan is not the only fight out there for Brook.
Both Cotto and Golovkin are huge names, as, of course, is Pacquiao.
Cotto's last outing was against Alvarez, a Las Vegas clash for the WBC title that he lost by unanimous decision.

However, the 35-year-old would still be a fine opponent for Brook, since he has stepped up to the likes of Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. in his career.
Golovkin would be an even tougher challenge for the Brit, with the Kazakhstan fighter currently holding the WBA Super and IBF middleweight titles.
Brook must get past Bizier on Saturday, and he needs it to be convincing so that he can look forward to some big fights in the future, with plenty of major names seemingly on the table.
