Enzo Amore, Kazuchika Okada and Latest WWE NXT Developmental News

Ryan DilbertMar 16, 2016

The constant shifting of the WWE NXT landscape was on full display with the biggest stories of the week: Enzo Amore continues to get opportunities alongside the main roster, and Kazuchika Okada is reportedly on the company's radar.

The recent additions to Amore's resume suggest that a promotion is on its way. He again found himself entertaining a non-NXT audience.

As for Okada, even with as stacked as the developmental brand is, WWE apparently wants to add The Rainmaker. Even if the company doesn't snag him from Japan, though, a recent report pointed to WWE aggressively acquiring international talent in the near future.

In other news, a luchador appeared at the developmental brand's home base, a writer is on the move, and a new collection shows off the greatest NXT matches to date.

NXT Writer Moves to SmackDown

NXT lead writer Ryan Ward is changing positions. Dave Meltzer mentioned on Wrestling Observer Radio (h/t Wrestling Inc) that Ward has moved from writing for NXT to working on WWE SmackDown.

Ward had been doing a stellar job with NXT. The show consistently had momentum. Feuds made sense. Events naturally bled into each other.

While he tries to bring that same narrative acumen to SmackDown, NXT will have to adjust. Just like it does when wrestlers move to the main roster, the brand has to find a new star to take up the mantle.

Luchador at WWE Performance Center

Speculation about Mexican star Humberto Garza Jr. coming to NXT just shot up. PWInsider's Mike Johnson reported on Monday, "Garza Jr., the cousin of the late Hector Garza, was spotted at the WWE Performance Center today."

While that is no confirmation that he is going to sign a deal, it adds fuel to recent rumblings. The Wrestling Observer (h/t Wrestle Zone) reported last month that Garza was expected to work a tryout or be part of the Global Cruiserweight Series.

The latter option makes a ton of sense. WWE is going to need a ton of high-flying talents to make that show a success. Garza would be a thrilling addition.

WWE Reportedly Eyeing Top Japanese Star

3 of 5

Could Kazuchika Okada join AJ Styles and Shinsuke Nakamura as New Japan Pro Wrestling stars who made the move to WWE?

The company seems to want that to happen. According to the Wrestling Observer (h/t Wrestle Zone), Okada is drawing WWE's interest. His 6'3" size is reportedly appealing to the company. In addition, the report noted that WWE is looking to sign talents from Japan, Mexico and the United Kingdom in the months to come.

Okada has been clear that he wants to be a part of NJPW's future and isn't interested in coming to WWE. He said in a 2015 interview with Rolling Stone, "I don't want to leave Japan. I'm not interested in WWE at all."

With that in mind, it will be a hard sell to bring Okada aboard. The more pertinent news is word that WWE is seeking to add international talent. Whether it's for the Global Cruiserweight Series or NXT, signing wrestlers from around the world will only better an already thriving brand.

The Revival and Enzo Amore Work WWE House Shows

4 of 5

Enzo Amore looks to be sliding over to the main roster.

He and Colin Cassady had a number of opportunities to compete at WWE events against the NXT tag champs, The Revival. At Roadblock, The Realest Guys in the Room challenged for the tag titles. But that wasn't the extent of the NXT-WWE overlap.

Amore and The Revival wrestled on two additional house shows, per ProFightDB.com, on March 11 and 13.

Had Amore and Cassady won the belts, one would naturally wonder if The Revival was on its way to Raw and SmackDown. Getting these shots to compete at WWE events and the freedom to move that comes with not being champions, though, points to Amore and Cassady being the ones to be changing addresses soon.

The WWE tag team division could certainly use them. The New Day needs some help in providing it with electricity.

Other News, Notes

At an NXT live event in Palatka, Florida, over the weekend, a prospect looks to be have been hurt.

JJ Williams wrote for F4WOnline.com, "Post match, Aliyah looked shaken up and the ref called for help. She was able to make it to the back with assistance to the crowd cheering her name." There has been no update on her possible injury yet.

NXT fans will now be able to binge the brand's best. Marc Middleton of Wrestling Inc noted that the company just released WWE NXT Greatest Matches Vol. 1 on DVD and Blu-ray.

Looking ahead, NXT may be creating a tradition in scheduling TakeOver events just before WrestleMania. F4WOnline reported (h/t Wrestle Zone) that Orlando will host a TakeOver special during WrestleMania weekend next year. This year, TakeOver: Dallas will precede The Show of Shows.
