AJ Styles vs. Chris Jericho Will Steal the Show at WWE WrestleMania 32

Graham GSM MatthewsMar 16, 2016

From Brock Lesnar vs. Dean Ambrose in a No Holds Barred match to Shane McMahon vs. The Undertaker inside Hell in a Cell, the WWE WrestleMania 32 card is shaping up to be one of the strongest in years.

But of all the matches on tap for WWE's biggest event of the year, it will be AJ Styles vs. Chris Jericho that steals the show.

Dating back to their initial interaction in the 2016 Royal Rumble match, Styles and Jericho have had a fantastic feud going. Their first three matches against each other were nothing short of stellar, as well as their various tag team battles versus The New Day and The Social Outcasts.

Now they once again find themselves on opposite sides of the squared circle following Jericho's ruthless attack on Styles on the March 7 edition of Raw, effectively ending their "Y2AJ" alliance. Jericho went on to run down the "redneck rookie" days later on SmackDown before receiving his comeuppance at the hands (or forearm) of Styles this past Monday night.

Although Styles vs. Jericho IV has yet to be announced for WrestleMania 32, it is logical to assume it will be added to the event sooner than later, as thrusting them into the Intercontinental Championship picture would be a waste of their talents.

There was a fear among fans that Styles wouldn't be utilized properly by WWE upon coming to the company, but that has been far from the case. In the two months since his arrival at the Royal Rumble, he has suffered only one singles loss against Jericho on SmackDown.

With his merchandise selling extremely well at the WWE Shop, according to Styles' (h/t WhatCulture's Grahame Herbert), it's evident that he has successfully gotten himself over with the WWE audience. He could find himself among the elite in the main event scene in no time if he continues his gradual rise to superstardom.

Meanwhile, Jericho deserves credit for rejuvenating his career and injecting new life into the Y2J persona. Styles has without a doubt brought out the best in him, and their feud should take on an interesting dynamic with him as a heel.

Jericho has returned in the past to put over the talent of tomorrow (see: Fandango), but for the first time in several years, his character seems to be back for a purpose: to prove he is superior to Styles in every way.

Styles vs. Jericho is a case of simple storytelling at its finest. WrestleMania will be the perfect place for them to blow off their program and deliver their best bout to date.

They will be facing tough competition, however, as Lesnar and Ambrose also look to make a major statement at The Show of Shows. Their No Holds Barred Street Fight has the potential to be exceptional, but make no mistake about it: The former "Y2AJ" tag team partners are capable of contesting a classic as well.

Given the great matches they have had so far, Jericho and Styles have earned a prominent spot on the WrestleMania 32 card. The Phenomenal One will especially benefit from working with a seasoned veteran and notable name like Jericho in front of a worldwide audience that might not yet be familiar with him.

With three weeks until WrestleMania, there is still plenty of time for the feud to develop further. Could we see an extra stipulation added to the match, such as a future shot at the Intercontinental or WWE World Heavyweight Championship?

Although a standard singles match between the two would be remarkable, a Submission matchup would be equally entertaining. Jericho has scored a decent amount of submission wins in recent weeks using the Walls of Jericho, while Styles has established the Calf Crusher as a credible maneuver.

Regardless, you can expect them to shine in whatever type of match they end up competing in. As two of the very best this business has to offer right now, their hard-hitting, aggressive in-ring styles will result in the match of the night come April 3.
