Amore and Cassady looked to garner enough momentum to steal the tag team championships away from their longtime rivals. After a couple of boots to the face and a nearfall, Cassady was moments away from picking up the pinfall for his team.
But Dash and Dawson garnered enough of a distraction to land the Shatter Machine on Cassady, taking the big man out of commission for the rest of the match. Amore almost pulled off the comeback by himself, landing a top-rope DDT on Wilder and almost rolled up Dawson for the three. But the two-on-one game was too much for Enzo to overcome, as the champs hit another Shatter Machine for the win.
Dash Wilder and Scott Dawson first captured the tag straps in October, but the team of Enzo and Big Cass has been after the gold far longer than that. They entered Roadblock having still not won them despite their immense popularity.
Enzo and Cass have been at odds with The Revival for the past few months, as Dash and Dawson have used underhanded tactics and sneak attacks on numerous occasions to keep the titles in their possession.
The Revival put Big Cass on the shelf for a few weeks after jumping him and injuring his leg, but the 7-footer was able to recover in time for an NXT Tag Team Championship match at NXT TakeOver: London in December.
Dash and Dawson ultimately won that match, but the rivalry was far from over, as Enzo and Cass remained in hot pursuit.
While the two teams continued to get physical on a number of occasions, they also traded no shortage of barbs on Twitter, such as this exchange between Dawson and Cass:
The heat between the two teams boiled over on a recent episode of NXT, when The Revival attacked Enzo in a parking lot until Cassady showed up to chase them off.
That incident led to the NXT Tag Team Championship bout being set for Roadblock, and Dash had no doubt that The Revival would defeat Enzo and Cass once again and vanquish them once and for all:
"Enough of the sneak attacks. Enough of the catchphrases. At #WWERoadblock we end Enzo & Cass. #TheRevival #AndStill https://t.co/cp0MsTDLIC
— Dash (@DashWilderWWE) March 3, 2016"
Dawson agreed and insisted that The Revival's no-frills approach would trump the flashiness and excitement that Enzo and Big Cass bring to the table:
While both teams have been a staple in NXT for quite some time, Saturday night represented their first opportunity to shine on a show designed primarily for the main-roster talent.
Enzo and Cass have been touring with the main roster and working house shows, but Roadblock gave them their greatest exposure, as they worked the undercard of an event that also featured Brock Lesnar against Bray Wyatt and a WWE World Heavyweight Championship match between Triple H and Dean Ambrose.
Everyone involved acquitted themselves well, and the teams made strong cases for being called up to compete on Raw and SmackDown in the near future.
With regard to what Saturday's result means for NXT, it seems likely that The Revival will now be tasked with defending their titles at NXT TakeOver: Dallas just a couple of days before WrestleMania 32.
It is unclear where Enzo and Cass will slot in when it comes to that card, but American Alpha is a team on the rise, and they appear to be establishing themselves as the top contenders.
The NXT Tag Team Championships continued to elude Enzo and Big Cass at Roadblock, but they turned in another fine performance, and a consolation prize in the form of a call-up to the main roster could be on the horizon.
