Roman Reigns, WrestleMania 32, Y2AJ and More from the Heel-Turn Mailbag
Y2AJ is no more. I pretty much begged for this on Team Stream Now last week. So why doesn't this feel as good as it should?

Modern-Day Dream Matches 💭

Most Likely Backlash Heel/Face Turns 🎭
I've been fully behind the Y2J heel turn for quite some time. I was happy to see him finally do so this past Monday on Raw, but after one of the best WWE tag team matches in a while, I'm starting to have second thoughts.
A heel Chris Jericho against AJ Styles is going to be one of the better overall programs at WrestleMania. They'll be prime candidates to steal the show. This match is what has to happen, and I understand that.
But after a fantastic WWE Tag Team Championship match on Raw, it's hard not to wonder how good a full-blown feud between The New Day and Y2AJ would have been. Think about these teams with tables, ladders and/or chairs added. Y2AJ's spectacular showing was seemingly designed to showcase just how good Jericho and Styles were as a unit.
All that showcasing—which included makeshift T-shirts—was also designed to distract fans from the inevitable turn. But even though Y2AJ was taken away, I have a feeling Jericho and Styles at WrestleMania will be a match people talk about for years to come.
As good as WrestleMania 31 was, it was without a signature, all-time wrestling match. There's a good chance these two veterans change that.
The Road from WrestleMania?
I'm almost more excited about post-WrestleMania season than the road to WrestleMania. WWE is like a talented but injury-riddled football team that will get all its star players back at the beginning of next season.
Remember when the 2010 Green Bay Packers won the Super Bowl with a roster that had 16 players on injured reserve? The following year, several of those players returned. Those 2011 Packers went 15-1, turning in one of the best regular seasons of all time.
Big names like John Cena, Randy Orton, Cesaro and Seth Rollins will mix in nicely with younger WWE Superstars who will be more developed by the time they return. A Dean Ambrose-Roman Reigns feud will be welcomed, and the dynamic between the "hand-picked" Reigns and underdog Ambrose will be terrific.
It'll be even more intriguing if Ambrose is heel.
WWE's post-WrestleMania ratings are usually quite low. But with so many high-profile returns planned for the spring and beyond, this will help mitigate the annual lull that plagues WWE well into the summer.
Roman's Revenge?
WrestleMania will be held in a giant venue at AT&T Stadium before a record crowd. Thus far, 84,000 fans have purchased tickets, according to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter (h/t WrestlingInc.com).
This certainly helps Reigns in terms of the reaction. A small, more hostile venue like the Allstate Arena—which eviscerated Cena at WrestleMania 22 in 2006—would be a nightmare scenario for Reigns at WrestleMania. But a gigantic stadium that will bring in fans of all distinctions will make for a more pleasant response should Reigns win the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.
WWE has shrewdly kept Reigns off television for multiple weeks while pitting the underdog Ambrose against Triple H. If WWE plays its cards right, Triple H will come off as even more of a heel by the end of that feud, which will make it easier for fans to rally around Reigns.
WWE knows more about pro wrestling than any of the overly sensitive fans who criticize the promotion for pushing Reigns. There's a reason Reigns is getting this spot, and that reason is rooted in more research, knowledge and instinct than anything that has been posted in a comment section.
I have confidence WWE has a solid plan to develop Reigns into a top-tier talent regardless of the reaction he receives.
