WWE Roadblock 2016: Predictions for Event's Biggest Stars

Brad JonesMar 10, 2016

While WWE Fastlane was billed as the last stop on the Road to WrestleMania, in recent weeks a Roadblock has emerged.

This Saturday night, the WWE Network will play host to a show that's shaping up to be a look at how this year's Showcase of the Immortals might have looked had things turned out differently.

With a main event that follows up on an issue between the final two men in the Royal Rumble, and a showcase match that was once heavily rumoured for WrestleMania, WWE Roadblock looks set to be an engaging diversion as April 3 looms large.

Here are predictions for all the biggest stars set to appear on the show.

Enzo and Cass Make an Impression

1 of 4

NXT is set to be represented on the Roadblock card, as The Revival prepares to defend its tag team title.

The challengers are Enzo Amore and Colin Cassady, two of the most popular performers on the NXT roster at present. While conventional logic might dictate that their lengthy chase might come to an end on a major show like this, the smart money would be on the champions retaining.

Enzo and Cass have been deserving of the NXT Tag Team Championship for a long while now, and in that time, American Alpha has developed in leaps and bounds. At this point, it's Jason Jordan and Chad Gable who should be the next champions.

Where does that leave Enzo and Cass? Well, a spirited performance in front of legions of fans watching on Saturday night could be a potent precursor to a main-roster debut.

Expect to see a showcase for Amore's personality and Cassady's imposing build—but The Revival will walk out with the belts, even if it needs to resort to dishonest tactics to do so.

Prediction: The Revival retains.

Lesnar Beats the Numbers Game

2 of 4

Brock Lesnar is set to take on Bray Wyatt at Roadblock, but the New Face of Fear will have his Family in support. While Paul Heyman is a master of the mic, he's not the sort of backup The Beast needs here.

Fortunately for Lesnar, even four backwoods brutes might not be enough to take him out. At the Royal Rumble, he eliminated Luke Harper, Erick Rowan and Braun Strowman—only for them to head back into the ring and toss him over the top rope.

Lesnar obviously still has a problem with the Wyatts, even if his rivalry with Dean Ambrose has dominated his appearances in recent weeks.

The fact that The Beast is scheduled for a major match at WrestleMania does telegraph this bout's outcome a little—especially given that Wyatt doesn't appear to have a prominent spot on the supershow's card.

As such, it seems like there's only one way that this match can play out.

Prediction: Lesnar wins convincingly.

The New Day Holds onto the Gold

3 of 4

The New Day was one of the hottest acts on the WWE roster in 2015, but this year we've seen less of a focus on the paragons of positivity.

However, we've seen a real focus on its in-ring acumen in recent weeks, and that's a smart choice. Putting the New Day between the ropes with the likes of AJ Styles and Chris Jericho is a great way to demonstrate that the faction is more than just a comedy act.

A match against King Barrett and Sheamus of the League of Nations is a sensible next step. We'll see a great match on the night, which offers up several different possibilities for WrestleMania.

April 3 could see all three members of The New Day meet three representatives of the League—or a different combination from the faction could challenge the champions as part of a multi-team gauntlet.

The common theme among these possibilities is that The New Day is still defending the title. It would seem unwise to have its reign come to an end just before WrestleMania, when it could have a much bigger impact if it happened in Texas.

Prediction: The New Day retains.

Ambrose Comes Up Short

4 of 4

Most years, you wouldn't expect to see the world title changing hands just a few weeks before WrestleMania. However, there's an outside chance that Dean Ambrose walks out of Roadblock with the richest prize in sports entertainment.

A win for the Lunatic Fringe could set up a truly blockbuster main event for WrestleMania; a Fatal 4-Way match pitting him against Triple H, Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar.

Typically, plans don't change this late in WrestleMania season—but given that all four men have become so intertwined as we head toward the Showcase of Immortals, the groundwork has already been laid.

All that being said, Triple H has to be the favourite going into this bout. It's a good opportunity for him to get a title defence in before WrestleMania, especially given that he won the title in a Battle Royal scenario.

The Game and Ambrose have an opportunity to put on a great match without the pressures of WrestleMania and with an undoubtedly rowdy Toronto crowd fully engaged with the bout.

However, we'll likely see some WrestleMania foreshadowing before the final bell—with Lesnar in the building, the Beast Incarnate may well be a deciding factor via interference.

Prediction: Triple H retains.
