This will be the second WrestleMania in nine years to take place in the Citrus Bowl. Orlando played host to WrestleMania 24 on March 31, 2008. The card for that event was highlighted by the World Heavyweight Championship match between Edge and The Undertaker, as well as The Big Show taking on undefeated boxing champion Floyd Mayweather Jr.
The Citrus Bowl is also the venue where Flair wrestled in his final WWE match, losing to Shawn Michaels.
The New Day were on hand at the press conference and were excited about WWE's return to the Citrus Bowl:
This year's WrestleMania will take place at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, on April 3. WWE officials hope to break the all-time attendance record of 93,173, which was set at WrestleMania III at the Pontiac Silverdome. WrestleMania 24 had a reported attendance of 74,365, which was a stadium record, per Eric Lopez of Orlando Sports Daily.
WWE made the right call by bringing the event back to an outdoor stadium on the East Coast. Levi's Stadium hosted last year's WrestleMania, but the late-afternoon daylight did not enhance the entrances of stars such as The Undertaker, Triple H, Bray Wyatt and Sting, who rely on low-lit arenas for eye-popping entrances.
Having WrestleMania in Florida for the third time in nine years makes sense, since the WWE Performance Center is in Orlando, but other venues that WWE has not tried yet could be as effective. Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia and Soldier Field in Chicago could be ideal venues for future WrestleManias because of those cities' well-known passionate fanbases.
Perhaps WWE will look at those locations in the future.
