The tandem known as Y2AJ defeated Kofi Kingston and Big E in a non-title match for the second straight time, with Kingston tapping out to the Walls of Jericho on Monday.
Jericho and Styles just completed a monthlong, three-match feud that ended with The Phenomenal One winning the rubber match at Fastlane. On the following episode of Raw, Jericho and Styles began their tag team endeavor against The Social Outcasts with an easy four-on-two victory.
The two legendary high-flyers teamed up with Mark Henry during last week's SmackDown to defeat The New Day in a six-man tag team match, with Xavier Woods tapping out to Styles' Calf Crusher submission.
Twitter did not react favorably, starting with TV personality and wrestling fan Katie Linendoll:
SportsCenter anchor Robert Flores did not think Styles needed to be in the tag team title picture this early into his run with WWE:
There's a lot to digest with this decision to put the gold on the line next week. Throwing Styles onto a tag team with someone he feuded with throughout his first month in the company is a questionable move, as is making him and Jericho the No. 1 contenders after three matches together. Having this match on Raw compared to WrestleMania does not make sense, either, especially if The New Day drop the titles next week.
The Usos, The Lucha Dragons and The New Day have carried the tag division since last year. Having a new team is a fresh look for the tag team picture, but pushing Styles and Jericho toward the top is questionable when a team like Enzo Amore and Colin Cassady is waiting in the wings in NXT.
Right now, it's difficult to see the titles changing hands next week.
