Hiddink Confirms Terry Problem
Saturday, April 2
Ahead of the 4-0 win over Villa, Blues manager Guus Hiddink revealed Terry picked up a problem during the recent international break.
Terry's Absence Opens the Door for Miazga
Branislav Ivanovic and the 20-year-old American Matt Miazga lined up in the heart of defence at Villa Park, and Terry's absence means that partnership may need to be deployed once again.
Terry's latest injury is a blow to the tremendous revival the Blues have experienced under Hiddink. Since the Dutchman succeeded Jose Mourinho in December, the west London club's form and results have improved significantly.
Terry has played his part in the turnaround, even though the defence around him has changed. Kurt Zouma's serious knee injury in February reunited Terry with Cahill, bringing back the partnership that helped Chelsea to the Premier League title last season.
But a hamstring injury forced Terry to miss Premier League fixtures against both Newcastle United and Southampton in February. He also sat out an FA Cup tie with Manchester City.
It's an unwelcome absence for a decorated club legend who's expected to leave Stamford Bridge this summer, per BBC Sport.
Terry is no longer the force he once was, but his role as Chelsea's leader and his experience and smarts at the back are still essential qualities.
The Blues are still in the hunt to secure European football for next term, but their bid is sure to suffer without their captain.
