WWE's Top Stories, Rumors and Buzz for Week of February 27

The Doctor Chris MuellerFeb 27, 2016

It was an eventful week in the land of WWE. We witnessed a major return during Raw, a brutal attack at the end of the show and someone attempting to sell a WWE Hall of Fame ring on television.

WrestleMania 32 is still several weeks away, but we already know of three matches that will be featured on the massive pay-per-view on April 3. Triple H will defend the WWE World Heavyweight Championship against Roman Reigns, The Undertaker will battle Shane McMahon inside Hell in a Cell and Dean Ambrose will face Brock Lesnar.

Let's take a look at the biggest stories from the past week.

The Prodigal Son Returns

After six years of being away from the company his family built from the ground up, Shane McMahon returned on Raw during the presentation of the Vincent J. McMahon Legacy of Excellence Award.

In what was something of a worked shoot, Shane told Stephanie and Vince they have been running the company into the ground, citing injuries, falling ratings and a slew of other failures.

Shane told his father he wanted control of Raw, which essentially puts him in control of the company, but Vince had an ace in the hole.

In order for Shane to take his place in the seat of power, he will have to go through The Undertaker at WrestleMania 32 inside Hell in a Cell.

It will be interesting to see how all this plays out. Shane would never be looked at as a threat to The Undertaker inside a cell, but McMahons always have a backup plan.

Roman Reigns Becomes No. 1 Contender

Fastlane 2016 didn't feature any titles changing hands, but we did find out who would be facing Triple H for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania when Reigns defeated Ambrose and Lesnar in a brutal Triple Threat match.

It seemed like a foregone conclusion that Reigns would be the winner heading into the match, but many held out hope for WWE to surprise everyone and put Ambrose over.

The following night on Raw, Triple H assaulted Reigns at ringside, leaving him bloody and in need of surgery to repair his nose.

While the scene was clearly staged, the level of violence portrayed went beyond the usual PG programming we have come to expect from WWE over the past few years.

Reigns will likely be out for a few weeks to allow his nose to heal, but when he comes back, we can expect to see the former Shield enforcer on the warpath to get revenge.

WWE Hall of Fame Ring on Pawn Stars

Wednesday's episode of Pawn Stars featured a WWE Hall of Fame ring coming into the shop. Before the show aired, false rumors spread about the ring belonging to Tammy "Sunny" Sytch, reported by Wrestling Inc, but it turned out it once belonged to the late Paul Bearer.

A friend of Bearer's family brought the ring into the Gold & Silver Pawn Shop, but he ended up leaving with the item when the highest offer he received was $4,000.

According to Showbuzz Daily (h/t WrestingInc), ratings for this weeks episode went up. Much of that could be attributed to fans expecting an actual WWE Hall Of Famer to appear on the show, which obviously didn't happen.

Shinsuke Nakamura Officially Part of WWE

Japanese wrestling star Shinsuke Nakamura is now officially part of the WWE roster after signing with the company and appearing at a press conference on Feb. 21.

The King of Strong Style was rumored to be heading to WWE months before his actual hiring, and now he has signed on the dotted line, anticipation for his debut is building.

On Wednesday, WWE's official Instagram account also posted a photo showing how Nakamura was presented with a custom WWE ring.

While American fans might not be familiar with Nakamura's exploits, anyone who watches Japanese wrestling knows just how good this guy is.

He's as charismatic as they come and equally talented inside the ring. Let's just hope he can stay healthy so we don't have the same situation we found ourselves in with Hideo Itami.

John Cena Hoping to Return for WrestleMania 32

John Cena's resiliency is well-documented. He has returned from just about every injury he's had in a shorter amount of time than expected, and he is hoping to do the same thing again.

Cena posted a message to his Twitter account talking about wanting to "defy science," indicating a desire to be ring ready by WrestleMania 32.

The last time we saw Cena in a WWE ring was during SmackDown's debut episode on the USA Network in a segment involving Kalisto and Alberto Del Rio back in January.

Cena underwent surgery to fix a shoulder injury soon after. Returning in time for Mania is a lofty goal, but it's not impossible.

What do you think? Will Cena be ready to compete at WrestleMania 32?
