Genzebe Dibaba Breaks Women's Indoor Mile World Record at Globengalan
Genzebe Dibaba of Ethiopia is the new world-record holder for the women's indoor mile, running a time of 4:13.32 Wednesday at Globengalan.
As noted by FloTrack, Dibaba's time is the second-fastest mile run by a woman in history. Svetlana Masterkova of Russia still holds the all-time world record at 4:12.56. The previous indoor record, set by Doina Melinte of Romania 26 years ago, was 4:17.14.
Dibaba, 25, has been on fire in recent appearances. She has set the world record in the 1,500-meter and 3,000-meter races over the last couple of years, showing a particular affinity for indoor tracks. The International Athletics Federation named her Athlete of the Year for 2015, and Dibaba is already considered a favorite to bring home Olympic medals for Ethiopia in Rio de Janeiro for this summer's Games.

Stockholm has also been the home to many of her best accomplishments, as Dibaba set indoor records in the 3,000-meter and 5,000-meter races in her previous two appearances.
If that weren't enough, Dibaba may wind up doubling at the 2016 World Indoor Championships in Portland, Oregon. She would run the 1,500-meter and 3,000-meter races as part of her prep for domination at Rio.
"I will probably double but I will decide after this meeting," Dibaba said, per Athletics Weekly.
For now, Dibaba will have to settle for being the most dominant force in women's track and field. She's proved unstoppable in several events and is preparing for a 2016 calendar year in which she may become a household name.
