PSG Prepared to Sell €20 Million Aurier
Monday, Feb. 15
According to a Monday report by RMC Sport's Mohamed Bouhafsi (via Bleacher Report's Jonathan Johnson), the Ligue 1 giants value their defender at €20 million (£15.5 million), but they will not consider the termination of his contract:
Aurier's future at Parc des Princes looks all but over following his inflammatory comments, per the Guardian's Dominic Fifield, but he could be a valuable acquisition for any club now willing to take a risk on his signature.
Aurier's contract in the French capital may not be terminated early, but Goal's Robin Bairner confirmed on Monday evening that the former Toulouse star will remain suspended for the time being:
This has all stemmed from the Periscope Q&A session Aurier conducted on Saturday evening, per Fifield, where he was alleged to have referred to manager Blanc as "une fiotte," translated to mean "f----t."
According to Fifield's report, Aurier also suggested star striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic receives preferential treatment from his manager. The report also quoted Blanc detailing how he reacted to hearing what Aurier said in a public forum:
"How did I react? Very badly. Very badly. Because we think whatever we like – this is a democracy and we are free to think about things, have our opinions – but that boy. Two years ago, I committed myself to bring him to Paris, so to see what I saw yesterday … that’s the thanks I get? It’s pitiful.
I won’t say more because I’m here to talk about the Chelsea game, a very important match, but he has penalised himself. He should have been preparing for a last-16 round game in the Champions League. That would have been better than staying at home not knowing what to do with himself. It’s bad for him but what I won’t accept is that he’s damaged the club.
"
As part of Aurier's punishment, he has been prevented from contacting his Paris Saint-Germain team-mates, per Goal's Loic Tanzi, a sign of just how much trust he's lost at the club.
Along with the punishments that have already arisen from the situation, the Daily Mail's Adam Crafton questioned why there was no more visible condemnation for Aurier's use of a homophobic slur:
PSG boss Blanc may look to use the likes of Gregory van der Wiel or Marquinhos during Aurier's absence from the starting lineup, but it appears no question of depth may save the Ivorian's place in the squad.
Potential suitors may now treat the right-back with caution after finding out how careless Aurier can be, and it's likely many clubs may waive the chance to sign someone of his character, irrespective of his quality on the pitch.
