The Most Entertaining Teams in Sports Right Now

Nick DimengoFeb 14, 2016

There are a number of different factors that make a sports team entertaining to fans. From success in their sports to compelling athletes and, finally, to social media wittiness, not all great teams have proven to be the most fun to pay attention to.

Since some are better than others at stealing the spotlight, though, I decided to list the top 10 most entertaining teams in sports right now, using criteria from social media, records and athlete appeal to see who ranked as the best.

10. FC Barcelona

There are other power teams in sports around the world, but there isn't one that has it as good as La Liga's FC Barcelona, who have the luxury of having some of the top players in the world in their starting 11.

Joining Ballon d'Or winner Lionel Messi as attacking players are Neymar and Luis Suarez, making Barca as dangerous, lethal and more intriguing than any other sports franchise on the planet. It truly is poetry in motion with all three on the pitch together.

Sitting atop La Liga standings and in contention for a Champions League title, Barcelona has more star power than any team in Europe—and arguably more than anyone in every sport in the world.

9. Toronto Blue Jays

Following a 2015 season that saw them reach the American League Championship Series for the first time since 1993, I don't know about you, but I'm excited as hell to see the encore from the Toronto Blue Jays.

In addition to their amazing season last year—in which they led the majors in runs scored—the roster is stocked with superstars and All-Stars, which includes sluggers like Jose Bautista and AL MVP Josh Donaldson, among others, making the Jays a favorite to win the AL East again in 2016.

Oh yeah, and let's not forget about the team's insane Game 5 of the AL Division Series against the Texas Rangers—which is, arguably, the craziest playoff game any of us have ever seen and included the greatest bat flip in baseball history.

Packed full of stars and expectations, the Blue Jays are a team worth watching anytime you get the chance to in 2016.

8. Denver Broncos

Not only did the Denver Broncos just win Super Bowl 50 last Sunday, but they also happen to have a cast of characters who fans can't help but enjoy watching.

And while quarterback Peyton Manning is still one of the most beloved players in the league, thanks to his humor and success—which he proved by mocking brother Eli Manning's face from the Super Bowl on late-night TV—this team won the Lombardi Trophy because of defense.

So, who better than Von Miller to show his enthusiasm for the game?

Miller might be known for his insane speed and strength while rushing an opposing passer, but he's full of energy off the field, too, showing that he's as entertaining as anyone in the league.

Gone are the days of NFL record-setting points from a couple of seasons ago, and in are the big-name players who are still as sturdy—and fun.

7. Atlanta Hawks

After winning a franchise record 60 games during the 2014-15 NBA season, the Atlanta Hawks haven't been quite as dominant this year, but that doesn't mean they still aren't entertaining.

Sure, players like Jeff Teague, Kyle Korver and Al Horford are fun to watch, but it's the team's promotional nights and Twitter that really make this team one with intrigue.

Once described by SB Nation's Mike Prada as having the best Twitter feed in sports, the team outdid every sports franchise by holding a Tinder Night last season, playing off of the popularity of the, um, "dating app," to fill seats.

The Atlanta Hawks know how to have fun.

6. Buffalo Bills

The Buffalo Bills did not make the playoffs in 2015, but that doesn't mean that they weren't one of the most entertaining teams in all of sports.

Why? Two words: Rex Ryan.

That's right. Sexy Rexy made the Bills must-see TV the second he accepted the job in Buffalo, staying in the AFC East after leaving the New York Jets a few months prior and keeping his ongoing rivalry with Bill Belichick, Tom Brady and the New England Patriots alive.

From trolling other teams by sending out former players as captains and selling ball pumps at the team store, to the swagger that Ryan has always been known for, the Bills enter 2016 as a team that fans have seemed to enjoy watching.

5. Oklahoma City Thunder

For the past few seasons, because of unfortunate injuries to key players, people have seemed to forget about how fun the Oklahoma City Thunder are to watch.

This season is changing all of that, though.

With superstars Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook healthy again, OKC is having a season that everyone expects them to have. They are currently sitting in the No. 3 spot in the Western Conference, and whether you want to admit it or not, they are posing a legit threat to win the West come playoff time.

As fun as the triple-double machine Westbrook is to watch or how jaw-dropping it is to see Durant score at will, it's the humor of these young guys that makes them fun to watch—and not just on the court together, either.

Look no further than the other day when Russ was seen poking fun at KD while he was talking about his chance to be a photographer at the Super Bowl.

Just like brothers who finish each other's sentences, these two All-Stars are an unstoppable force, making it necessary to see what the Thunder are up to.

4. Chicago Cubs

The Chicago Cubs enjoyed a breakthrough 2015 season in which they reached the National League Championship Series for the first time since Cubs fan Steve Bartman crushed the North Side of Chicago's heart by... well, you know the story.

That rejuvenation was part of a plan by the front office that took a few years to develop but, ultimately, came to fruition thanks to young stars and new manager Joe Maddon.

With the joy back in Wrigley Field again, fans found themselves cheering for a new breed of players like 2015 NL Rookie of the Year Kris Bryant and others during the postseason run—which included a win over division rival St. Louis Cardinals.

It was during the playoff series against the Cardinals that the Cubs proved they were made for prime time, as the team's Twitter feed took aim at St. Louis' penchant for curtain calls after seemingly every home run.

Bryant and his mates may have lit up the Chicago sky, but when coupled with the team's hilarious social media efforts, everyone around Clark and Addison in the Windy City enjoyed what the Cubbies were doing.

3. Los Angeles Kings

While the Los Angeles Kings are "only" sitting in the No. 4 spot in the Western Conference right now, that might not mean a thing to them—especially when considering the team won a title as the No. 8 seed a few years ago.

Winners of two Stanley Cups in the past four seasons, the Kings are an elite franchise with star power at most positions and the intrigue of playing in a city like Los Angeles where the bright lights shine.

As good as the team has been on the ice in recent years, the Kings' Twitter feed has been straight fire, coming up with witty tweets and replies that troll opposing teams and fans like nothing sports fans have ever seen.

Between their play, titles and social media handles, the L.A. Kings are in a class of their own as the entertainment capital of the NHL.

2. Carolina Panthers

The Carolina Panthers might not have smiles on their faces today after losing Super Bowl 50 to the Denver Broncos last Sunday, but, until Super Sunday, there wasn't a football team having more fun than them.

Led by league MVP Cam Newton, the Panthers were dabbing all over opposing teams and handing out footballs as souvenirs as if they were selling Girl Scout cookies, making young Panthers fans line up for the chance at some pigskin.

While some may have taken offense to the theatrics the Panthers put on display all season long, until the Broncos beat them, no one else gave the team a reason to stop.

Their season didn't end with a championship, but let's all hope that a similarly relaxed culture is on display again in 2016—because it was fun to watch.

1. Golden State Warriors

So much more than just the reigning NBA MVP and arguably the greatest shooter the league has ever seen, Golden State Warriors point guard Stephen Curry brings an exuberance to the game that every fan can't help but enjoy.

As the team's peers wonder how in the hell players like Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson and the rest of the Dubs can nail shots from downtown with ease, the Warriors continue to roll around at a record pace, playing loose and with smiles on their faces.

Hoping to defend their championship crown from last season, the Golden State Warriors are a video game team in real life. For most basketball fans, each performance is mind-blowing.
