Sunil Dev Claims 2014 India vs. England Test Was Fixed
Former India cricket team manager Sunil Dev has said the fourth test between India and England played in Manchester in 2014 was fixed, per Hindi daily Sun Star (h/t the Times of India's Anshul Jain).
In a sting operation conducted by the daily, Dev was reportedly caught making revelations regarding captain Mahendra Dhoni, as tabloid Mid Day noted: "Dev supposedly said that the team meeting before the Manchester Test it had been decided that India would bowl first because the conditions were wet and cloudy. But Dhoni surprised everyone by choosing to bat first because he had fixed the match, claimed Dev."
"People won't believe the truth," Dev said, per Jain, when asked why he had not wanted his report to be made public.
Dev added that he had brought the matter to the attention of then-President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) N. Srinivasan.
However, Justice Mukul Mudgal, who heads the IPL spot-fixing committee, denied Dev's claims, adding he had no knowledge of any effort to fix the test and that "if there is any truth in the story, [Dev] should have reported to the board again via email," per Jain.
Over the course of three days, India lost the Test match to England by an innings and 54 runs.
