Liverpool Transfer News: Reds Eye Teenager Dubbed Next Luis Suarez, Top Rumours

Rob BlanchetteFeb 6, 2016

Liverpool are chasing Uruguay teenager Joaquin Ardaiz, who has been described as his country's "next Luis Suarez," according to reports.

Mike McGrath of the Sun said the Anfield giants will face competition from Manchester City and Barcelona for the 16-year-old starlet, as the Sky Blues plan to extensively scout the youngster.

Lee Thomas-Mason of Metro claimed manager Jurgen Klopp has already sent his staff to watch the player "catching the eye" of the club's representatives.

Ardaiz has represented his country at youth level and is tipped to break into Danubio's senior team, following in the footsteps of Paris Saint-Germain superstar Edinson Cavani, per McGrath. The teenager was raised in Salto on the northwestern tip of Uruguay bordering Argentina—where Suarez also grew up.

Here is a video of the attacker's recent exploits:

Despite always being one step from controversy, Suarez developed into a world-class talent at Liverpool and is fondly remembered as an icon by those on the Kop.

He became a vital member of Barcelona's treble winning side last term and has continued to find the back of the net in 2015-16, scoring 24 goals in La Liga and the Champions League to date, per WhoScored.com.

Liverpool could also decide to move for Spain international Alvaro Morata at the end of the season, but not before the player rejoins Real Madrid

David G. Medina of Marca claims Los Blancos have opted to activate their buy-back clause in the player's deal with Juventus, spending €32 million to capture his signature. However, Real are considering immediately selling the talent to Liverpool or Manchester United as they believe the Premier League clubs would pay "in the region" of €50 million—gaining a handsome profit.

Speculation is also growing regarding Klopp's interest in Bayer Leverkusen goalkeeper Bernd Leno after the player admitted a move would interest him.

The stopper told Sport1 (h/t Tom Olver of Metro) he "dreams" of a switch to play outside of Germany: "Perhaps you sometimes have dreams of playing abroad, I find that very sexy," Leno said. "What happens at the end is not known—but dreaming, I am always dreaming."

The 23-year-old was the subject of interest from the Reds in January, per Olver, and is viewed as a potential replacement for Simon Mignolet. The current No. 1 made yet another howler at the weekend, conceding a soft free-kick against Sunderland, as the Black Cats fought back from 2-0 down to earn a point.

Football writer Dave O'Connell highlighted the price of Mignolet's mistakes:

Klopp has continued to keep faith with his goalkeeper, but the time will come when he is forced to strengthen the position.

Mignolet doesn't have valid competition at Anfield, and Leno is a top-class 'keeper-in-the-making, having featured in the Champions League at 19.

Liverpool's depth of issues were highlighted on Saturday as they folded against the Black Cats, and Klopp will need to rebuild from the back before he addresses his attack.

Mignolet showed plenty of promise during his years at Sunderland, before his switch to Merseyside, but he has gone backwards since taking the goalkeeper's spot at Liverpool in 2013.
