Recap

Everton's English midfielder Ross Barkley celebrates scoring their third goal from their second penalty during the English Premier League football match between Everton and Newcastle United at Goodison Park in Liverpool, north west England on February 3,

After going winless in their last five Premier League games, Everton finally managed to secure all three points in a league fixture, knocking off Newcastle 3-0 on Wednesday.

Aaron Lennon scored the game's opening goal in the 23rd minute, while Ross Barkley notched a brace with two penalty conversions after the 88th minute.

The pair each drew one of the two late penalties to seal the deal and proved to be too much for Newcastle to handle throughout the contest.

The Toffees thoroughly dominated the match, outshooting the Magpies 18-7 (7-3 on goal) while holding 56 percent of possession, per WhoScored.com. And it was a result they desperately needed, as Phil McNulty of BBC Sport noted:

Roberto Martinez agreed.

"It was very pleasing," the Everton manager said after the match, per the NBCSN broadcast. "The way that we worked hard, the way we played for one another. Two clean sheets in a row now."

He added: "I thought it was a very professional performance, with a great work rate throughout the game. I thought it was a very complete performance from that point of view."

The Toffees will try to build on the momentum from this game on Saturday in a matchup against a Stoke City side still licking its wounds after losing 3-0 to Manchester United.

Meanwhile, Chelsea could only manage a scoreless draw at Watford in a game highlighted by a brief scrap between Diego Costa and Juan Carlos Paredes that resulted in a short stoppage and yellow cards for the pair but was ultimately much ado about nothing.

The Blues remain undefeated under Guus Hiddink (three wins, five draws in Premier League play), though they don't look like a club playing up to its immense potential, either.

While Chelsea continue to look like the shell of a team that won the title a season ago, Watford have been one of the more pleasant surprises of the season and drew with Chelsea for the second time this season. Troy Deeney has certainly been pleased with his club's two efforts against the Blues, per the Premier League:

Goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes was certainly instrumental in securing the point in this contest, making several excellent saves, while the home side looked more likely to notch the winner in the opening 45 minutes. While Chelsea came more into the game as it went on, a resolute Watford side, led by Gomes, refused to break.

Matchday 25 will feature several very key matchups, including a battle between the top teams on the table, Leicester City and Manchester City on Saturday. Tottenham will look to continue their climb up the table that same day, while Arsenal will want to stop their poor recent form with a win over Bournemouth on Sunday morning and Manchester United will be keen to build upon their excellent showing against Stoke with another win over Chelsea.

With both the title race and European spots well up for grabs, we've entered the portion of the season where every single point is vital. This weekend could prove to be a vital one for several clubs.
