Shavar Manuel to FSU: 4-Star DT Decommits from Florida, Joins Seminoles
Manuel, a 4-star defensive tackle from Academy in Bradenton, Florida, from Florida and signed with Florida State on Wednesday.
He first announced his from Florida on Twitter:
Manuel's change of heart greatly benefits the Seminoles, who are landing the ninth-ranked defensive tackle in the country, the No. 11 prospect from the state of Florida and the recruit overall, per ' composite rankings.
The ", 290-pound tackle, who can also play as a defensive end, accumulated 92 tackles and 19 tackles for loss as a defensive tackle, according to Edgar Thompson of the Orlando Sentinel. Previously, he notched "more than two dozen sacks in two seasons at Tampa Blake" while playing off the edge.
His combination of size and strength, paired with his athleticism and excellent burst, makes him a handful for opposing offensive linemen no matter where he plays on the line. He's one of the rare defensive linemen who plays the run and pass equally well, and he uses leverage and his hands well to drive blockers back or to generate a pass rush.
While Florida State has solid depth on the defensive line, Manuel is the type of talent who could potentially earn himself playing time immediately, depending on where the Seminoles line him up going forward. He'll certainly be expected to make a major impact at some point of his Seminoles career.
