Dear Bleacher Report, Please Bring Back the Old Format
Dear Bleacher Report,
I am writing you, and the rest of the Bleacher creatures, because we all feel like we are a part of this site. We know that you are the ones in charge, and you are the decision makers, and really, what you say goes.
I would like to start off by saying that you have made great strides at updating the site. There have been many changes since I started here seven-plus months ago, and many of them are fantastic.
The site does not look like a blog site anymore. It looks professional, and it is a credit to you and the entire staff, that the site is as big as it is.
There are a few questions and concerns that have come up over the last month or two, that we would like to bring to you attention. I think this is the best way to do it, because then the rest of the creatures can chime in and either agree with me, or tell me I am crazy, which they normally do anyway.
Team Pages. They all look great. As good as anything that you will find on ESPN or SI or any of the other "real" sites. There is a problem with them though. See, when I first started here, I would check my writer ranking every day, to see how I was climbing the list.
It took a while before I saw my name in the Steelers top five, and when I did, I tried even harder to work my way up to No. 1. While I was at No. 1, you changed the pages, and instead of having your writer rankings, you have the featured columnist.
It is an honor to be a featured columnist, which I am not one, but that is not my concern. The people that are on here, every day, writing their work, can no longer track where they are at between the other writers. One of my requests is that you can some how work the writer rankings for each team onto these wonderful new pages.
If someone is new they don't get their work on the page long enough to draw fans to their work, and as someone who asked not to be named said to me, how is anyone going to read their work if they are only on the page for an hour or two?
The other problem with the team page is, at least with the Steelers, the Community leaders you have listed there, are no longer writing with the site, at least not as often as a "leader" should be.
Not to take anything away from them, because at some point, they did do the work needed to be a community leader, but they are just not that active at this point. This may be my complaint more than anyone elses, but I have offered my services numerous times, and have been told I am being considered, but that was more than two months ago, and none of them have changed since.
Other than the team pages, my next round of complaints goes to our profile pages. In the activity box on our pages, it used to say all of the activities of not only us, but of the people that would leave comments on our articles or messages on our bulletin boards, or if someone edited our articles or left feedback.
The numbers still change when someone leaves a comment, but the only way we know if anyone left us a BB message, is by email. I have gone days without realizing someone left me a message, and that delays editing, comments and things along those lines.
I do have to say that I like the Inbox feature you have added to our profile. It gives us the chance to communicate privately with other creatures, without putting our message out for the world to see. Is there anything you can do so that we can actually delete the old messages? Every time I try, nothing happens.
As I said earlier, I am really hoping that this article does not offend anyone, that is not my intention. I am simply trying to help get Bleacher to be the best it can be, and hopefully, in the comments, people will agree with me and help me to let you know. Or they wont, and I can just shut up.
Thank you for your time,
Nick Signorelli and everyone in comments.
