NHL All-Star Game 2016: Full Rosters, TV Info, Livestream and Predictions

Steve SilvermanJan 31, 2016

Give the NHL credit for one thing: The league understood that its most recent iterations of the All-Star Game were anything but artistic successes.

After a couple of years of letting All-Star "captains" pick their own teams—it was Team Toews over Team Foligno by a 17-12 score in last year's exhibition in Columbus—the league has changed formats once again.

The league has decided to conduct a four-team tournament with the new three-on-three regular-season overtime format as its All-Star Game.

Predictions

Taking a look at the rosters, the Atlantic Division has a fine all-around lineup, but it may not have the offensive power of the other three divisions. If that squad gets off to a lead, players like Patrice Bergeron and Leo Komarov can help protect it, but it may have a hard time playing catch-up if it falls behind.

The Central Division lineup may be the most talented of all. It has the league's leading scorer in Patrick Kane along with Tyler Seguin, Jamie Benn and the sharpshooting Vladimir Tarasenko. Add in Nashville's gifted defensemen, Roman Josi and Shea Weber, and that's one potent lineup. However, the Central goaltending may be a tad below par with Pekka Rinne and Devan Dubnyk.

The Metropolitan lineup is balanced with Nicklas Backstrom, Claude Giroux, John Tavares and Evgeni Malkin up front and Justin Faulk and Kris Letang on the blue line. Braden Holtby may be the best goalie in the NHL this year, and Cory Schneider is solid in that area, as well.

The Pacific Division has John Scott, who does not belong based on his stats, but the fans voted him in. Look for his teammates to support him by setting him up with scoring opportunities. High-level players like Johnny Gaudreau, Taylor Hall, Joe Pavelski and Corey Perry have a chance to be spectacular. Drew Doughty and Jonathan Quick of the Los Angeles Kings give this team a legitimate championship opportunity.

Look for the Metropolitan to use its superior offensive skills to get by the Atlantic in the Eastern semifinal, while the Pacific will take advantage of its edge in goaltending to defeat the Central and advance to the championship.

Following the East's win in the NHL All-Star Skills Competition Saturday night, it chose to play in the first three-on-three game, which makes sense, as it will get some decent rest before playing in the championship game.

The Metropolitan Division will take advantage of that and get the best of the Pacific Division to win the All-Star Game.
