He May Be Young, But He's Ready

Despite his youth, Lubin is ranked 14th by the WBC, per Fightnews.com. His ranking is significant because the organization's title is currently vacant.

Lubin is probably too far down in the rankings to get a shot at the vacant title this year, but if he keeps winning, he could be in the mix for a world title shot by 2017. That could potentially lead to a unification bout with fellow PBC fighter and current WBA champion Erislandy Lara.

Lubin has won four straight fights by stoppage. Most recently, the southpaw from Orlando, Florida, knocked out Alexis Camacho in the second round in November 2015. He showed impressive hand speed and power in both hands against Camacho.

Here are highlights of the victory from PBC's YouTube channel:

The next step in the process is a win over Macias. The 24-year-old Mexican is seemingly the perfect test for a young, up-and-coming fighter like Lubin. Macias is just four years older, but he's had 11 more professional fights.

He's also been a pro since 2011, when he was just 19 years old. Undoubtedly, Macias has seen the tape on Lubin. Per PBC's Matt Jacob, Macias spoke about avoiding the Floridian's punching power.

“Training camp has been excellent and I will have to give 100 percent in the ring against Erickson Lubin,” Macias said. “I will have to move a lot and get inside, and have a tight defense so I don’t get hit by one of Lubin’s bombs.”

With the Florida crowd firmly behind him, Lubin is expected to put on a show. He's embracing the opportunity to headline a card.

“I am excited and ready to shine in my first main event,” Lubin said. “It means a lot to headline in my home state of Florida. The whole crowd will be on my side, and they will expect a lot. … I am training hard, staying focused and I want to make sure the whole world knows who Erickson Lubin is.”

Lubin has legitimate star potential. If he wins on Sunday, it could be the first of several cards he headlines in the future.
