Top Five Picks for the Qwik Liner Las Vegas 350K Truck Race

Horn FanSep 24, 2009

This week the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series will be racing Saturday night under the lights at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

It's race No. 20 of 25. It should be exciting to see the trucks back on the 1.5 mile track and were pit strategy could play a row in who visits victory lane.

Here's my top five picks for the race, along with a sleeper pick and my Raybestos Rookie of the Race pick.

1.) Mike Skinner—In seven races at the track, he has compiled two wins, two top fives, five top-10 finishes, three poles and led 194 laps.

Skinner should have a fast truck, qualify on the pole, be fast all race, could use pit strategy, if not already leading in the closing laps he'll be there vying for the win.

2.) Todd Bodine—In five races at the track, he has compiled one win, two top fives, three top-10 finishes and led 207 laps.

Bodine should have a decent truck, qualify well, be fast, he's always at his best on this size of track and he'll be their in the end vying for the win.

3.) Ron Hornaday Jr.—In eight races at the track, he has compiled five top fives, six top-10 finishes and led 95 laps.

Horn should unload with a stout truck, qualify top three, be fast all day, could use a late caution get fresh tires to steal a win but will be point racing if he's not vying for the win.

4.) David Starr—In nine races at the track, he has compiled one win, three top fives, five top-10 finishes, one pole and led 30 laps.

Starr usually runs pretty good at Vegas, needs to qualify well, should be fast, could use pit strategy to get the lead or for track position to battle for the best possible finish.

5.) Brian Scott—In two races at the track, he has compiled 14th- and 29th-place finishes.

Scott should have a really good truck, be fast, qualify well, his Jeff Hensley led crew will be an asset for him and could use pit strategy to steal a win or the best possible finish.

My Raybestos Rookie of the Race pick is, Johnny Sauter. He's been on a tear of late, with four consecutive top five finishes and has run well in the Nationwide at Vegas.

He should have another top-10 finish, be fast, needs to qualify well and if everything goes his way maybe even pick-up a win.

My Sleeper Pick is, Colin Braun. As a rookie he finished 12th and led a lap. It's a track were Roush-Fenway has found a lot of success at.

Braun should have a decent, be fast, qualify well, and may be even have a shot at the win.

Aric Almirola, Matt Crafton, and Tayler Malsam just missed the cut.

Then Timothy Peters, Rick Crawford, Terry Cook, T.J. Bell, and Ricky Carmichael could all factor in as well.

The trucks at Las Vegas usually put on a excellent show, we could see pit strategy used for track position or will we see another dominating performance on the multi-grooved oval.
