4 High-Profile Names Who Could Still Move in the January Transfer Window
Time is running short in the transfer window, but that doesn't mean all the business is done.
Only a week remains before the Feb. 1 deadline passes in England, while Spain (Jan. 31) and Germany (Feb. 2) have slightly different cutoff dates. But that's plenty of time for some big names to change clubs, and if history is any guide, the deadline day itself will see the most action of the window.
So who could still make a move? Here, we list four high-profile names who could trade clubs before now and the deadline.
Alex Teixeira

Liverpool's long pursuit of Alex Teixeira could be coming to a close. Citing a report from FutbolUkraine, the Daily Star's Chisanga Malata labeled the transfer "imminent" in an article published on Sunday.
Why? According to FutbolUkraine, Teixeira and Liverpool have agreed to personal terms, with the only question being how much the Premier League club must pay Shakhtar Donetsk as a transfer fee. Shakhtar reportedly want £38 million, while Liverpool have offered only £24 million.
"There's absolutely nothing to say," Reds boss Jurgen Klopp said on Monday, per Simon Jones at the Daily Mail. "Maybe it surprises you. I have nothing to say to things like this."
Shakhtar have every reason to value Teixeira so highly. The 26-year-old attacking midfielder is their top scorer this season with 22 goals in 15 Ukrainian Premier League matches (h/t WhoScored.com). He also notched three strikes in six UEFA Champions League group games.
Alexandre Pato

Alexandre Pato has been around world football for so long that it's hard to believe he's still only 26. In six years at AC Milan, the Brazilian forward netted 63 goals in 150 games, per the Daily Mail's Ian Ladyman.
Why is Ladyman so interested in such stats? Well, according to that report, Pato is close to joining Chelsea on loan from Corinthians for the rest of the season. Per Ladyman, Chelsea were putting the final touches on the deal Sunday night.
That would mean an announcement should follow sometime this week, ending Pato's three-year stint in his homeland. His arrival would give the Blues depth behind Diego Costa, who scored the winner against Arsenal on Sunday in the Premier League.
"One day I knew I would like to come to England because I think the championship is No. 1 in the world," Pato told reporters. "It is very competitive. I like the emotion in the English league."
Loic Remy

One reason for Chelsea's interest in Pato could be Loic Remy's apparently imminent departure from Stamford Bridge. The French forward signed with the Blues from Queens Park Rangers in 2014 but has never made a sustained run in the first XI.
But that hasn't stopped him from drawing plenty of interest from Premier League clubs. According to Mike McGrath at the Sun, the Chelsea man is a target for Crystal Palace, Swansea City and Newcastle United.
Lee Ryder at the Newcastle Chronicle also passes along the rumor, citing Remy's desire to play more first-team football in order to improve his chances of featuring for France at UEFA Euro 2016.
A move to Newcastle would make some sense for Remy, who spent the 2013-14 season on loan there.
Gervinho

Gervinho a big name? Sure, just don't tell any Arsenal supporters.
The Ivory Coast international, who flopped so memorably at Arsenal, is set to trade Italy for China after Roma confirmed they have conducted negotiations with Jiangsu Suning over the player (h/t Guardian Sport). Gervinho, 28, has scored six times in Serie A this season but has made clear his desire for a transfer. He was not in the squad for Roma's 1-0 loss to Juventus on Sunday.
“I can confirm there are negotiations on-going for Gervinho to China,” Roma director Mauro Baldissoni is quoted as saying in the Guardian article. “When a player expresses the desire to leave, there’s no point keeping him.”
Before you believe a deal is done, consider this. Gervinho was apparently all set to join United Arab Emirates club Al Jazira last summer before the transfer fell through due to "obscene demands." Among those demands were a helicopter and a private beach, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport (h/t Callum Davis at the Daily Telegraph).
