It has been a great career for the Indianapolis native, but it was hard to live up to expectations after a phenomenal sophomore campaign in which he scored 17.3 points per game to go along with 3.9 assists.
As a junior, he averaged one fewer point per game but did dish out one extra assist per contest. Although he has not upped his scoring average much this year, he has kept it consistent and is still wowing the crowd with passes like this one, which broke the record, per the Hoosiers:
His head coach, Tom Crean, praised Ferrell prior to Tuesday's game, per Andrew Vailliencourt of Inside the Hall.
“I love coaching Yogi Ferrell, he’s done a tremendous amount of things here,” Crean said on Monday. “He’s a winner, takes a challenge and is always committed to improving. He’s a very headstrong, aggressive, winning first type of guy.”
Winning is what the No. 25 Hoosiers have been doing lately, tallying 11 straight victories and turning a sluggish 5-3 start into a solid 16-3 record and a spot atop the Big Ten standings.
Ferrell is the floor general and a big part of Indiana's success this season. If he continues finding his teammates for easy baskets at his current rate and keeps his scoring around 17 points per game, there is no reason to think the Hoosiers can't make a run in the NCAA tournament come March.
