Seven Super Sleepers: Fantasy Football Week Three

Alex ShultzSep 24, 2009

No fancy introductions here. Below is a list of replacement players to fill in for your injured/under-performing stars. These guys might not be well known yet, but they can still provide big games for a fantasy squad.

Diamonds in the Rough

  • Jerome Harrison, Cleveland Browns RB. Harrison is playing the Ravens this week, so he might get off to a slow start. But he's in line to receive the bulk of the carries if Jamal Lewis sits out with a hamstring injury. Long term, Harrison is certainly worth a pickup just to see if he can breakout on a pretty dismal Browns team. Don't insert him for week three unless Lewis doesn't play and you need a flex option.
  • Tashard Choice, Dallas Cowboys RB. Much like Harrison, Choice will get a chance to shine if his starter (Marion Barber) is unable to go. Felix Jones would likely inherit more carries than Choice, but that doesn't mean Choice won't be heard from. In fact, if Barber does sit out, expect a rushing TD and around 40 yards from the second year running back. If Barber plays, Choice will still be in line for more carries than normal.
  • Laurent Robinson, St. Louis Rams WR. Donnie Avery has been nothing short of disappointing for the Rams, while Laurent Robinson has provided a steady target for QB Marc Bulger. He probably isn't a fantasy starter yet, but if you are a few men down, he could fill in and do an admirable job. It's better to get Robinson now before teams have bye weeks and everyone scrambles for replacements.
  • Jason Campbell, Washington Redskins QB. If you are in a super deep league and own Donovan McNabb, Matt Hasselbeck, or any other injured QB, give Campbell a look. He's playing the Lions, so don't worry about the Redskins' poor red zone offense. Even Sonny Jurgensen, who recently criticized Jim Zorn's play calling against St. Louis, could throw a TD against Detroit's shoddy secondary.
  • Jermichael Finley, Green Bay Packers TE. The Packers and their prolific offense will face off against the miserable Rams' defense. Both John Carlson and Chris Cooley led their teams in receptions and yards vs. the Rams, so there's no reason to think Finley can't have a great game too. It helps that his backup, Donald Lee, is questionable after taking a hard hit in week two.
  • Todd Heap, Baltimore Ravens TE. Heap has two touchdown catches in two games, yet he's owned by just 46 percent of Yahoo! fantasy football owners. That needs to change. A matchup against the Browns certainly favors the Ravens, and this could be your last chance to get an above-average fantasy TE before everyone goes after him.
  • Jake Delhomme, Carolina Panthers QB. Yes, Delhomme was absolutely awful in week one. He didn't do too badly last week though, and he plays a poor Dallas secondary on Sunday. The Cowboys' corners allowed Byron Leftwich to play well, and they also let unproven WRs Steve Smith and Mario Manningham roam freely with clutch catches all game long. Now, they get the better of the two Steve Smiths, so Delhomme could be in for a big day.
