Deontay Wilder Calls out Tyson Fury After KO Win over Artur Szpilka
WBC champion Deontay Wilder isn't set to fight IBO, WBA and WBO heavyweight champion Tyson Fury yet, but that didn't stop him from calling out Fury after defeating Artur Szpilka on Saturday night, per Brian Campbell of ESPN.com:
Fury went back at Wilder, per Mike Coppinger of USA Today:
The 27-year-old trash-talker gained even more confidence in November after beating Wladimir Klitschko in a 12-round unanimous decision.
However, Wilder's knockout against Szpilka on Saturday could make anyone wince, per Showtime Sports:
Fury wasn't impressed, though, and he's not backing down. An anticipated fight between the two undefeated boxers looms, but it can't happen until Fury fights his contractually obligated rematch with Klitschko.
Wilder also has a mandatory bout with Alexander Povetkin on the horizon, which Fury claims he is ducking. "I will bump into Wilder on Saturday when he fights this guy nobody has heard of. Wilder has been avoiding his mandatory Alexander Povetkin for two fights now," Fury said before Saturday's fight, per Edward Chaykovsky of BoxingScence.com.
Chris Mannix of Yahoo Sports acknowledged that Fury likes to talk, but when it comes down to it, he brings it in the ring:
Wilder wasn't afraid to spar in a verbal war with Fury, which will make what should be an entertaining fight between the two even better.
