NFL Playoff Bracket 2016: Picture, Schedule After Saturday's Divisional Round
It was another day in the NFL—and another day of unbelievable drama.
The New England Patriots began Saturday with a mostly ho-hum 27-20 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs. But the game did provide more reason to consider Tom Brady as the greatest quarterback of all time, as he sliced and diced a talented Chiefs defense for 302 yards and two touchdowns en route to yet another AFC Championship Game.
It was game No. 2—a back-and-forth divisional-round clash between the Green Bay Packers and Arizona Cardinals—that provided the true drama.

The Packers may have lost, but this play shown here by the NFL will be remembered for a long time:
It was Rodgers' second complete Hail Mary of the season, and this one to wide receiver Jeff Janis and Mason Crosby's extra point tied the game at 20 with no time left. However, as great of a throw as it was, it was future Hall of Famer Larry Fitzgerald who made the play that was the difference in the game, shown here by the NFL:
The Cardinals' video shows how Fitzgerald took this five-yard shovel pass into the end zone two plays later, and one of the greatest games in recent postseason history was over:
The Cardinals now will play the winner of Sunday's NFC Divisional Round Game between the Carolina Panthers and Seattle Seahawks. Arizona travels to Carolina if the Panthers win, but the Cardinals have the home field if the Seahawks come out on top.
It was a slow game in the first half, as Arizona led just 7-6 at the break. But quarterback Carson Palmer bounced back from a fourth-quarter interception in the end zone to throw a nine-yard touchdown to wide receiver Michael Floyd with three minutes and 44 seconds remaining.
It looked to be the game-winner as Arizona added a field goal after a Green Bay turnover on downs. But Rodgers pulled the rabbit out of his hat once again to force overtime.
| Carson Palmer | 25 | 41 | 349 | 3 | 2 |
| Aaron Rodgers | 24 | 44 | 261 | 2 | 1 |
The hero-like heave wasn't enough, but it certainly was a great piece of the puzzle in what will go down as a classic.
In the earlier game, it was classic Brady, performing at a high level when it mattered the most.
The Chiefs came into the game sporting the league's current longest winning streak at 11 games and momentum after a 30-0 wild-card victory over the Houston Texans last weekend.
However, New England had Brady.
All-Pro tight end Rob Gronkowski was battling knee and back injuries, but they didn't seem to bother him as he hauled in seven passes for 83 yards and both of Brady's touchdowns.
Wide receiver Julian Edelman was back from an injury and helped spread the field for Brady and Co., with 10 receptions for 100 yards.
When the Chiefs cut the lead to 21-13 in the third quarter, ESPN's Mike Greenberg still trusted the Patriots to come through, as they always seem to do:
They are hard to beat at home no matter what the score, per ESPN Stats & Info:
The Chiefs, who finished 11-5 after a 1-5 start, battled to the end—but it wasn't enough. However, it was one of the team's best seasons since advancing to the 1994 AFC Championship with Joe Montana at quarterback.
Their hometown MLS team, Sporting KC, gave a shout-out to the Chiefs after the loss:
Brady was just too much for a Chiefs defense that allowed fewer than 18 points per game coming in, and his strong performance helped New England make history, per ESPN Stats & Info:
And that performance sets up yet another matchup with Peyton Manning in Denver if the Broncos beat the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday. Or Brady, hopefully on the way to a fifth Super Bowl victory, will be back at home for the league championship if the Steelers are victorious.
Either way, expect Brady and the Patriots to be the favorites to represent the AFC in Super Bowl 50.
