Notre Dame's 2016 National Signing Day Wish List

Mike MonacoJan 6, 2016

SOUTH BEND, Ind. — February 3, otherwise known as national signing day, is rapidly approaching for Notre Dame football and the rest of the college football world.

As we prepare to be reminded of the relevance of the fax machine, let’s look at Notre Dame’s signing day wish list. The Irish currently have 21 verbal commitments in their class of 2016, a group that checks in 12th nationally.

There’s already enough drama surrounding uncommitted prospects who’ve waited until the first week of February to announce their pledges. Notre Dame, of course, doesn’t want any added headaches with the 21 commits already in line.

The class has blossomed in recent months with the additions of outside linebacker Daelin Hayes (No. 121 overall) in December, defensive end Khalid Kareem (No. 194) in October and defensive backs Donte Vaughn (October), Troy Pride Jr. (December) and Devin Studstill (December).

Notre Dame’s class could climb to 22 on Saturday when wide receiver Javon McKinley, the No. 107 overall player in the class, announces his decision at the Army All-American Bowl.

Demetris Robertson

Demetris Robertson

Georgia native Demetris Robertson is the No. 2 athlete and No. 24 overall recruit nationally. The 5-star prospect is weighing offers from Alabama, Georgia, Stanford and Notre Dame, per Irish247’s Tom Loy.

Robertson, at nearly 6’0” and 175 pounds, profiles as an explosive receiver.

Robertson is set to announce on national signing day, per Loy.

Jonathan Jones

Jonathan Jones

Outside linebacker Jonathan Jones is scheduled to announce his decision on national signing day, per Loy. The No. 33 outside linebacker and No. 435 overall player is deciding between Notre Dame and Michigan, according to Loy.

Confidence is high in the Notre Dame camp.

“I couldn’t feel better about Notre Dame’s chances at this point,” Loy wrote last month.

Jones took an official visit to Notre Dame in September, Michigan in December and is set to take an official to Duke in a few weeks.

Jeffrey McCulloch

Jeffrey McCulloch

Houston outside linebacker Jeffrey McCulloch is the No. 7 player at his position and No. 83 prospect in the class.

The Under Armour All-American is considering Notre Dame, Texas, Texas A&M and Stanford, per Loy. McCulloch took an official visit to South Bend in October for the USC weekend, and he’s since visited Texas A&M, Stanford and Michigan and is still in line to take officials to Texas and Alabama later this month.

The 6’3”, 230-pound 4-star prospect would be a key addition to the Irish class that doesn’t have a linebacker in his same mold already inked.

Caleb Kelly

After a run on defensive backs, linebackers are taking center stage in the Irish recruiting world. One of the best linebackers in the country, Caleb Kelly, is still considering Notre Dame and is scheduled to announce on national signing day, per Loy.

Kelly is the No. 3 outside linebacker and No. 23 overall prospect in the nation, and Oklahoma leads for his services, according to Loy. Kelly took an official visit to Notre Dame last month.

“After the visit, I kind of got a better feel for everything,” Kelly told Loy. “They had the academics, the football, the tradition. They have the people. They have great connections after football. It would be a smart decision to go there.”

Jordan Fuller

Jordan Fuller

Notre Dame likes 4-star athlete Jordan Fuller as a defensive back, and the No. 8 athlete in the country and No. 130 overall prospect took an official visit to South Bend in mid-December.

Fuller, who hails from Westwood, New Jersey, is still scheduled to take officials to Ohio State and Michigan later this month before deciding.
