Mora Reportedly Tells UCLA He Wants To Stay

Tuesday, Jan. 5

Tracy Pierson of Scout reports Mora has already expressed his dedication to the UCLA administration and, as things stand now, wouldn't even interview if approached by another college or NFL team.

The report contradicts one from Michael Silver of Sports Illustrated on Sunday, who listed Mora as one of the college coaches who was "trying hard to get to the NFL."

Mora has led the Bruins to a 37-16 record across four seasons in charge of the program. They have gone 2-2 in bowl games over that stretch, including a loss to Nebraska to close out this season. The team has also reached the top 10 at some point during each of the past three seasons.

After the loss to the Cornhuskers, which saw UCLA give up 326 yards on the ground to finish an 8-5 campaign, Mora provided a blunt assessment heading into the offseason, per Zach Helfand of the Los Angeles Times: "We need to get bigger, obviously. We need to get stronger, obviously."

Mora previously coached at the NFL level with the Atlanta Falcons and the Seattle Seahawks.

He led Atlanta to the playoffs in his first year, but he owns a lackluster 32-34 record in four NFL seasons. Before those head coaching stints, he worked on the defensive staffs of the San Diego Chargers, the New Orleans Saints and the San Francisco 49ers.

For now, he appears content on trying to continue to build UCLA into a College Football Playoff contender. There were noticeable strides made across his first three years at the helm, but the second half of the 2015 season represented a step in the wrong direction.

That makes it an important offseason for Mora. He must fill the necessary voids, especially in the trenches on both sides of the ball, to ensure those positive vibes return. Otherwise, his job status could be in question for a different reason by the end of the 2016 campaign.
