Recap

Just one day after three-time Lakeside champion Anastasia Dobromyslova was forced to pack her bags, the 2016 BDO World Championship lost another favourite for the women's title in the first round.
Last year's runner-up, the 21-year-old supertalent Sherrock, ran into Peters, a veteran of many battles who knows how to keep her cool under pressure. The Danish Diamond showed her incredible composure in the deciding leg, first winning the throw for the bull before taking out tops to shock the fans at Lakeside.
With two of her main rivals already out of the tournament, defending women's champion Lisa Ashton must like her chances of grabbing her third consecutive title.

Waites looks to be in stunning form entering the tournament, recording a whitewash win over Mandiger, who struggled on the doubles but likely would have lost against the 2013 champion even if he hadn't. Scotty 2 Hotty produced a stunning performance, which will surely send a message to the rest of the field.
Per Sportspage180, Waites remains one of the most accomplished players currently plying his trade with the BDO:
"Scott Waites, World Champion, World Master and a PDC Major winner. Not a bad player, is he? #BDO

Youngster Hewson put together a fine performance against Sajwani, but similar to Peters' win, the Swede showed the value of experience in the decider, as he took advantage of some struggles from Hewson to advance to the first round. Per BBC Sport, he seemed quite happy with himself:
Japanese qualifier Seigo Asada also made a big impression during the evening session, beating Darius Labanauskas 3-1, while Trina Gulliver needed a sudden-death leg to get past Dee Bateman.
Sajwani put together his best career Lakeside performance last year, making it to the last 16, and he'll be hoping to do better in 2016. He'll have to do a better job on the doubles to have any chance of advancing to the quarter-finals, but if he can keep his cool under pressure the way he did against Hewson, he'll have a massive advantage.
Hankey looked fantastic in his 3-0 win over Cameron, a match that inspired hundreds of jokes on social media. Bet365 got in on the fun:
Consistency has always been an issue for Hankey, but when he's on form, the two-time champion has the raw scoring potential to beat anyone. The way he blew past Cameron in the preliminary round spells trouble for the rest of the field―the Count seems ready for action.
Caldwell and Mitchell put together a fine showing in the opening match of the afternoon session, with the former eventually winning a decider to advance to the round of 32 for the first time in his career.
