Barcelona Transfer News: Sergio Aguero Talks Lionel Messi Deal; Latest on Neymar

Tom SunderlandDec 29, 2015

Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero has admitted that while he'd like to see international compatriot Lionel Messi arrive at the Etihad Stadium, he doubts the move will ever come to fruition. Plus, Neymar is ready to rake in a massive pay rise to stay at Barcelona.

Manuel Pellegrini's side have been linked as the most likely outfit to sign Messi in the event he leaves the Camp Nou, but Aguero told Omnisport he can't envision his countryman leaving Catalonia (h/t Goal's Sam Lee):

"

If he wants to come here, let him come!

It's very difficult for Leo to leave Barcelona, because he’s played there since he was very young and it’s not easy for him to think about another team. So no… hopefully he can be here at City obviously, but of course it’s always the player’s decision and I think he’s very comfortable and very calm in Barcelona.

Goal posted footage of the full interview with Aguero:

Fans at the Etihad would undoubtedly love to see international team-mates Aguero and Messi link up in Manchester, but one has to wonder why Messi would leave Barcelona when so much is going in his favour.

Aside from Spain's sunnier conditions that tend to attract the world's greatest talents, he's come upon an unprecedented trophy haul at Barca, winning four Ballon d'Or awards, four Champions League crowns and seven La Liga titles.

Meanwhile, City have spent their riches attempting to crack Europe and establish a hold over the Premier League, but one might debate their expenditures over the past seven years don't correlate with their success.

After Pep Guardiola confirmed he'll leave Bayern Munich at the end of the season, ex-Liverpool midfielder Don Hutchison suggested the former Barcelona boss could link back up with Messi at the Etihad:

That could play a large role in whether Messi ever leaves the Camp Nou before moving past his peak, while Spanish newspaper Sport claimed City are willing to offer Messi almost £400,000 a week to join their cause.

He isn't the only Barca star in line for a massive pay hike, either, as Sergi Font of Spanish daily Marca reported the Blaugrana will triple Neymar's annual salary in order to extend the Brazilian's stay.

Neymar already earns a substantial €10.5 million (£7.75 million) per year in Catalonia, but it's speculated his new deal would be worth an eye-watering €30 million (£22.1 million), equivalent to €575,000 (£425,000) per week.

Spanish newspaper AS quizzed Neymar on whether he was aware of Manchester City's interest in his signature (h/t Sky Sports' Lyall Thomas), to which he replied "Yes, yes." Per Squawka, he also refused to deny a move could materialise in future:

The financial evolution of transfers in football mean we live in a time where nothing is as impossible as it once might have been, and England's giants can hold the slimmest hope in pursuing Barca's best.

For now, though, it appears Messi and Neymar will continue to rake in all the awards they can at the Camp Nou, while City are left clinging onto the idea of what may come to fruition in the unforeseen future.
