Real Madrid Transfer News: Neymar 'Obsession' Reported, Top Los Blancos Rumours

Rory MarsdenDec 27, 2015

Florentino Perez is reportedly hoping for "full-blown treason" from Barcelona's Neymar as he attempts to persuade the Brazilian to join Real Madrid.

In much the same way Luis Figo swapped the Camp Nou for the Bernabeu at the start of Perez's Galactico era in 2000's huge, £37 million deal, the Blancos president is reportedly obsessed with snapping up Neymar.

According to Joaquim Piera for Spanish outlet Sport, Perez has been continuously trying to set up a meeting with Neymar's father, Neymar Santos Sr., in an attempt to pull off the transfer he so desires and get the ball rolling on a new era that "will not feature Cristiano Ronaldo—or Rafa Benitez."

However, the report indicated that Neymar's commitment to Barca is absolute—it is his dream club—and he and his representatives will not be persuaded in the way that Figo was.

Per ESPN Deportes' Jeinny Lizarazo, Perez is willing to meet Neymar's astronomical buyout clause, but the 23-year-old is widely expected to stay put in Barcelona:

Considering his phenomenal form this season, Perez can hardly be blamed for wanting to tempt Neymar into making a controversial switch.

He also recently made the slightest hint he could one day be open to a move away from Barca when questioned about reported interest from Manchester City, per AS: "You never know, life is long."

The Brazil captain has been arguably Barca's best player in 2015-16, netting 14 Primera Division goals and providing five assists in 13 appearances, per WhoScored.com

He has deservedly been nominated alongside Lionel Messi and Ronaldo in the final shortlist for the Ballon d'Or after playing a huge part in Barcelona's incredible 2015, during which they won five trophies.

But it is precisely because Neymar has been so successful with the Blaugrana that makes it highly unlikely he could be tempted into moving to their bitter rivals.

He could have no better prospects of individual and team glory than at Barca—although they are not currently topping Sam Tighe of B/R's European club rankings:

And it would be a bold move to break up his partnership with Messi and Luis Suarez, with whom he makes up the world's most devastating attacking trio.

Neymar would unquestionably be the ideal successor to Ronaldo at Real—although in Gareth Bale, they arguably already have the right man—but Perez looks set to be disappointed in his pursuit of the former Santos star.

Elsewhere, Real are still reportedly eager to sign Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea next summer despite their previous move for the Spaniard collapsing on transfer deadline day.

Per Jack Wilson in the Daily Star, a Bernabeu source has revealed Real are prepared to meet De Gea's reported £40 million release clause: "Real Madrid will not attempt to sign De Gea in the January window. But the club is proposed to sign him in the summer for next season."

Despite United's ongoing struggles, which have left manager Louis van Gaal fighting to keep his job, De Gea, 25, has remained consistently excellent and is one of the world's top goalkeepers.

While Real stopper Keylor Navas has also been excellent this term, it seems Real are holding out hopes of signing De Gea to be their No. 1 in the long term.
