"Initially, Origi was ruled out for around three weeks [with the hamstring injury] but hopes of a return to action in January have now been dashed," reported the Liverpool Echo's James Pearce, who explained:
"The knee problem is a long-standing issue which has hampered Origi at times throughout his debut season at Anfield. And after being assessed by club medical staff, the decision was taken to get it sorted now.

Fitness Issues Disrupt Improving Origi
The hamstring and knee setbacks were a big blow for the young Belgian, who had begun to show his potential as a versatile, mobile forward who can split out wide.
Origi had seen a remarkable amount of playing time since Klopp took over as manager of the Reds, and some encouraging performances followed before his injury.
The 20-year-old scored a hat-trick against Southampton early in December, arguably the finest performance of his Liverpool career, something he will be looking to replicate now he's ready to aid the Reds' attack.
