Wednesday Recap

Lewis edged the first leg 3-2 after Dekker took a 2-1 lead with outstanding 108 and 107 finishes, hitting a double five at the second attempt to draw first blood in the contest.

The Englishman was helped by Dekker's slightly inconsistent throwing as the Dutchman often hit only one treble per visit to the oche.

Lewis then went two legs up in the second set. Dekker pulled one back with a double six finish before Lewis took out 53 to take a 2-0 lead.

The 30-year-old looked in good shape, per Live Darts:

Dekker continued to make Lewis work and took a two-leg lead in the third set, but his fifth and sixth 180s helped him pull level before producing a moment of magic to seal the win, per PDC Darts:

As reported by Live Darts, Lewis said he needs to continue practising ahead of Round 2 after being challenged by Dekker:

Van de Pas was similarly made to work for his win over Hopp, but his victory was nevertheless fairly straightforward as his opponent frequently failed to hit the crucial doubles.

Hopp showed hints of a magnificent comeback when at 2-0 down in the third set, winning three legs in a row to earn a stay of execution in astounding fashion, but the Dutchman's second 180 of the night set him on the way to winning the fourth leg and taking the match 3-1.

Van de Pas was delighted when he hit tops to finish off the German, per PDC Darts:

Klaasen was particularly dominant when he faced Cullen and raced to a 1-0 lead with 97, 78 and 97 finishes in the first leg.

Cullen put up more of a fight in the second set as he took two legs—one of which on a break of throw—but successive 180s in a 12-darter granted the Dutchman a significant lead in the contest.

From there, it didn't take Klaasen long to see out the impressive victory, per Live Darts:

Earlier, Gilding made equally short work of Gerwyn Price, dropping just one leg in each of the three sets.

The 45-year-old set the tone in the opening leg of the night with a stunning 132 checkout:

Gilding sealed the first set with a 96 finish and took out 118 to take the initiative in the second. Price punished a rare moment of profligacy to break throw and pull back a leg, but normal service quickly resumed as Gilding took a 2-0 lead.

The third set soon followed, granting Gilding a comfortable win. The Englishman was pleased with the result but equally felt he had room to improve, per PDC Darts:

Lewis and Gilding will go head-to-head in Round 2.
