Colts Release Kenny Moore

Projecting Every NFL Team's Starting Lineup 🔮

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
As was the case in the last two years, the players aren't separated by conference. Instead, Michael Irvin and Jerry Rice will serve as the team captains and fill each of their roster spots through a draft, which will take place on Jan. 27 and air on the NFL Network.
If history is any indicator, a quarterback will be the top overall selection after Andrew Luck went No. 1 in 2014 and 2015. Since Luck failed to make the Pro Bowl roster this year, Cam Newton, Aaron Rodgers and Tom Brady will be among the best bets to come off the board first.
Of the three, Newton has the strongest argument for top-pick status after helping the Carolina Panthers remain the league's lone unbeaten team. While the Panthers have one of the best defenses in the NFL, they'd be in a much worse position without their dynamic quarterback.
Newton has succeeded almost in spite of the talent around him. Ted Ginn Jr., Jerricho Cotchery and Devin Funchess—none of whom would be considered No. 1 or even No. 2 wide receivers in most circumstances—are Carolina's top three wideouts.
Newton is collecting touchdowns at an almost historic rate, per ESPN Stats & Info:
He has also saved his best football for the second half of the regular season, per CBS Sports' Will Brinson:
Since this is a quarterback-driven league, Rice and Irvin are likely to target a pass-rusher with their first pick on the defensive side of the ball. If that holds true, it should be a memorable first trip to the Pro Bowl for Khalil Mack.
The Oakland Raiders defensive end leads the NFL in sacks with 15, while Pro Football Focus grades him as the best edge defender in the league. Using legal means to stop Mack is becoming increasingly harder to do, as the Raiders pointed out on Twitter:
When Oakland drafted Mack in 2014, it represented a major step forward after the front botched numerous first-round selections. The Raiders then snagged QB Derek Carr in the second round that season and added wideout Amari Cooper in 2015.
Carr and Cooper won't be joining Mack in Hawaii, but that situation could change next year. Carr made good progress under center, and Cooper leads all rookies with 68 receptions, 1,040 yards and six touchdowns.
In Mack, Cooper and Carr, the Raiders have three young players who should be the foundation for the franchise in the years to come.
An interesting aspect of the Pro Bowl will be the interaction between Odell Beckham Jr. and Josh Norman, especially if they're drafted to the same team.
The NFL announced Monday it suspended Beckham for one game, citing "multiple violations of safety-related playing rules." The New York Giants receiver not only struck Norman in the facemask with an open hand, but also delivered a blindside helmet-to-helmet block.
After the game, Norman didn't hold back his thoughts on Beckham, per ESPN.com's Ohm Youngmisuk and David Newton:
"You're going to be Michael Jackson and go around and dancing and playing and a lot of other stuff and not be a football player and not train the way you're supposed to train. It goes to show. I hope I pulled that mask off. I pulled back the face of what that dude really is. You want to play football, play football. Don't come out here and do all that extra stuff.
"
The chances their bad blood spills over the Pro Bowl are fairly slim, however. The game is a glorified exhibition and generally not taken seriously by the players. Should the Panthers make the Super Bowl, which is a very real possibility, Norman wouldn't even play in the game.
Both Rice and Irvin will look to maintain their perfect records as captains. Rice narrowly edged out on-field adversary Deion Sanders 22-21 in the 2014 Pro Bowl, while Irvin's group handed Cris Carter a 32-28 defeat last year.
