Navas Out for Copa America

Tuesday, May 31

ESPN FC's staff (via the Costa Rican Football Federation's official website) reported, "Navas will miss the Copa America Centenario this summer."

It's fortunate for Los Blancos that this injury only reared its head at the conclusion of the campaign, although his absence will be a big blow for Costa Rica's Copa America chances. Navas is by far the team's best option in goal, as likely replacement Patrick Pemberton has spent his entire career playing Costa Rica's Primera Division.

Real Announce Achilles Injury for Navas

Monday, May 30

Los Blancos reported via their official website that Navas underwent testing on his left Achilles on Sunday, with the results revealing an injury: "After the tests carried out this afternoon on our player, Keylor Navas, at the Sanitas La Moraleja University Hospital, he has been diagnosed with an Achilles tendinopathy in his left foot. His recovery will continue to be assessed."

The 29-year-old Costa Rica international was in great form during the 2015/16 season, maintaining his consistency for Real at home and abroad, despite the exit of previous Madrid coach Rafael Benitez.

According to Marca's Hugo Cerezo, Navas suffered from tendinitis in his heel during the summer, but he took his place as the club's No. 1 at the start of the campaign.

He was also absent for October's Liga win against Las Palmas with a muscle strain, as noted by Dermot Corrigan of ESPN FC.

The player has proved to be an able starter for Los Blancos, despite the club pursuing the transfer of Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea last summer, per BBC SportHe played a pivotal role in Real's run to the UEFA Champions League final, where they beat rivals Atletico Madrid in a penalty shootout.
