Quick Stats: After Two Games the Browns Almost Look Like It's 1999 Again
Two games are in the books, and the Cleveland Browns have shown a few similarities to their 1999 counterpart from a decade ago when they were just an expansion team.
To start, this is just a direct comparison of certain stats from the first two games of 1999 to the first two games of 2009.
In 1999 the Browns lost both of their first two games, 43-0 at home against the Steelers and 26-9 at Tennessee.

The combined scoring is as follows: 1999 Browns 9 points-opponents 69 points, 2009 Browns 26 points-opponents 61 points.
So the current Browns were able to score 17 more points than their 1999 counterparts, but that is not saying too much about the current team.
Another comparison is the amount of yards given up by the Browns' run defense.
The 1999 Browns gave up 319 yards after two games, but the 2009 Browns have given up 411 yards.
Wow!
Okay, Adrian Peterson has a lot to do with that stat, but still in 1999 the Browns faced running backs Jerome Bettis and Eddie George who were both elite runners then.
Both the 1999 Browns and the 2009 Browns have turned the ball over five times in their first two games too.
The Browns only won two games and one of those victories was a last-second hail mary pass to beat the Saints, but the current Browns should be able to at least double the victories from 1999.
So the Browns have almost reverted back to their expansion selves, but whether or not you think that Mangini is doing a good or not is your opinion, but there is also nothing you can do about that except to deal with the fourth attempt to rebuild this team in a decade.
Everyone is panicking, and that's understandable, but one thing is for certain is that this will be done Mangini's way and he doesn't care what you think.
To give the current Browns some justice, they have gained more yardage (468 to 213) and have more first downs (28 to 14), after two games, so there are positives to take from this comparison but there is still a very long way to go.
