Real Madrid Transfer News: Cristiano Ronaldo Deals PSG Blow, Latest Rumours

Christopher SimpsonDec 17, 2015

Cristiano Ronaldo has hinted that he may not be joining Paris Saint-Germain if he were to leave Real Madrid as he admitted he prefers the Spanish capital to the French.

The Portuguese has been extensively linked with a move to PSG in recent times, but he told Visao (h/t AS):

"I prefer Madrid to Paris but maybe one day things will change. Maybe I'll get myself a girlfriend there and spend more time there. I have family working in France but I'm not thinking about living in Paris. It's a beautiful city and I've been there several times but it doesn't do it for me."

Though he does not rule out ever living in the City of Light, the message is hardly a come-and-get-me plea to PSG.

Despite the fact he'll turn 31 in February, as one of the biggest stars in the sport, Ronaldo would naturally attract plenty of wealthy suitors should he decide to leave Real in the summer.

The superstar reached an incredible milestone earlier in the season, per OptaJoe:

No stranger to breaking goalscoring records, he also notched an phenomenal 11 goals in the Champions League group stage, for which he earned great praise from football writer Liam Canning:

Ronaldo has 21 goals and six assists in all competitions this season, though a seeming tendency of late to rack up significant numbers against lesser opposition and put in anonymous showings in the bigger games does raise a legitimate concern.

Nevertheless, he remains an incredibly important player for Los Blancos and could have a significant impact elsewhere.

Football writer Miguel Delaney believes the forward is keeping his options open:

For as long as Ronaldo remains at Real Madrid, speculation will continue to surround his next destination, so expect the saga to continue unabated for the foreseeable future.

If he does leave, Los Merengues could do worse than recruiting Bayern Munich's Robert Lewandowski or Arsenal's Alexis Sanchez to replace him.

According to German outlet Sport Bild (h/t Jose Carlos Menzel of AS), Real will face serious competition for Lewandowski's signature from PSG and Manchester United, though. However, the report further noted the Pole remains Les Parisiens' "Plan B" if they don't get Ronaldo in the summer, so if they did let him go to Paris, they would at least have an easier run at the Bayern Munich striker.

As for Sanchez, Spanish outlet Don Balon (h/t Goal) reported the Chilean is being considered as Ronaldo's "potential successor."

The forward would serve as a great replacement for the Ronaldo of old thanks to his pace, dribbling skill and clinical finishing.
