Callum D'SouzaSep 23, 2009

The league cup is a competition Arsenal have fail to win under Arsene Wenger. Despite Wenger always fielding a side of youngsters rather than a first team, the Gunners always seem to come agonisingly close.

However, as the Arsenal youngsters faced Championship side West Bromwich Albion in the third round, there was high hope that these promising youngsters would finally secure a League cup.

That hope strengthen as an Arsenal squad that boasted eight teenagers, dominated the game and ran out 2-0 winners, here are the Player Ratings.

Wojciech Szczesny: 7.5: The Polish teenager was given his senior debut and he didn't fail to impress. The 19 year old pulled of a number of crucial and impressive saves and was relatively solid off corners.

Kerrea Gilbert: 6: After a long loan spell the Englishmen returns to Arsenal and displayed a solid defensive performance. Although a little quiet in attack the Hammersmith born defender kept the right hand side relatively safe.

Philippe Senderos: 7: His first performance since his loan spell with AC Milan. Senderos was strong when called upon. Shaky in the air at times but showed good strength and positive sign for the coming months.

Mikeal Silvestre: 8: The Frenchmen probably felt like a Grandpa in a team of young'ins. However, the captain displayed a terrific performance, leading his troops and defending well.

Kieran Gibbs: 7: Did his job well. The Englishmen dealt with what Bromwhich attack came his way and was more than handy in attack.

Aaron Ramsey: 8: Grew as the game wore on. Showed a fine passing range along with some menacing runs. The Welshmen also showed a glimpse of Fabregas as he was the dominant midfielder.

Francis Coquelin: 8: Undoubtedly a young Patrick Vieira. Coquelin will no doubt feature heavily for Arsenal in years to come. Although he wasn't espically brilliant with the ball at his feet, the former Laval midfielder was strong in defence going into every challenge with fray and gusto.

Armand Traore: 7: Returned to the fray after a successful stint with Portsmouth. Showed good speed down the left flank and provided impressive crosses.

Jack Wilshere: 8: There's no denying this kid is a freak. So freakish the only was to stop him is to give him a little slap on the face. Excellent passing and balance on the ball. Time for some Premier League football, ay Wenger.

Gilles Sunu: 6: Worked hard but little paid of. A few glimpses of skill and talented but seemed to be hit with nerves. Is built with good strength and maybe would of benefited more if he was played in a more central role.

Sancez Watts: 6.5: On his senior debut grabbed a goal. Was threatening at times but needs to look up and control more. Another prospect for the future.

Substitutes

Mark Randall: 7: Came on and lit the game up. Strong passing as well as a few neat runs. Deserved a goal with his great chip but unfortunately hit the bar and fell for Carlos Vela to score.

Carlos Vela: 7.5: Like Randall, entered and provided. Neat tricks and good pace were evident as the Mexican got himself on the score sheet.

Nacer Barazite: 7: Was hoping the Dutchmen would start but still showed promise when he came off the bench. Silky on the ball and will play a big part in the League cup campaign.
