Desmond Howard, Aaron Rodgers, Ray Lewis Join Film on Exploited NCAA Athletes
Former LSU wide receiver Abram Booty has been in pursuit of backing for his feature film project, Work Horses, and he's reportedly received a big boost from a trio of former college football stars.
According to Fox Sports' Bruce Feldman, Desmond Howard, Ray Lewis and Aaron Rodgers latched on to Booty's project as he seeks to tell the story of what he alleges is exploitation of student-athletes by the NCAA.
A promotional video for the film can be viewed at the Kickstarter page for Work Horses, which is described as "a feature film based on the journey of a college athlete who finds the courage to stand up" and based on true events.
The trailer features familiar faces such as Super Bowl-winning quarterback Trent Dilfer, Seattle Seahawks defensive end Michael Bennett and Lewis, among others.
According to the Kickstarter page, Booty's initial fundraising goal is set at $250,000 to "bring the project to life." Booty noted $500,000 will be needed to fund the cast of the film, and $1 million is necessary for post-production and marketing.
Additionally, some of the loftier monetary pledges are rewarded with experiences. For instance, a pledge of $7,500 or more earns a GameDay experience with Howard, while a pledge in excess of $10,000 earns a day on the film set with Rodgers.
At the very least, support from Rodgers, Lewis and a Heisman Trophy winner like Howard should help bring the project into the national spotlight.
