Manchester United Transfer News: Harry Kane Warning, Latest Jamie Vardy Rumours

Rory MarsdenDec 7, 2015

Harry Kane is set to stay at Tottenham Hotspur for the foreseeable future despite consistent links to Manchester United, according to former Spurs midfielder Danny Murphy.

The Red Devils have been heavily linked with the England international, and it was recently reported that they are planning a £50 million swoop for Kane in the summer, per the Daily Star's Paul Hetherington.

However, speaking on Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast, Murphy warned United that Kane, 22, is going nowhere, and he could potentially spend his entire career at White Hart Lane, per talkSPORT's Joe Moore:

I don’t think Harry Kane will be going anywhere… ever. If Spurs keep progressing, he could be the player they build the team around. They could break the wage structure for him. If they sell Harry Kane in the next couple of years, could you imagine the uproar? He’s one of their own, and Tottenham have not sold a player like him.

[Dimitar] Berbatov was there for a couple of seasons and was gone and [Michael] Carrick was a Geordie. But Kane was brought up as a Tottenham boy, brought through the academy, he supports the club, is a prolific goalscorer and has every attribute to be an England striker of the future. If they sell him, they might as well give up. What’s the point if you can’t keep Harry Kane?

"

Louis van Gaal's United side are in dire need of added firepower in attack. Wayne Rooney is desperately out of form and currently injured, while 20-year-old Anthony Martial is undoubtedly talented but inconsistent.

Kane has proved by netting eight times in 15 matches in the 2015-16 season that his 21-goal campaign last term was no flash in the pan, per WhoScored.com.

Given his youth, Kane is only likely to improve, and he could be the ideal successor for the 30-year-old Rooney at Old Trafford.

Murphy's comments seemingly reflect the thoughts of Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino, who has consistently expressed little concern over Kane's future, per football writer Peter O'Rourke:

Certainly, Spurs fans will be desperate for Kane to remain at Tottenham, but a big offer from United could tempt chairman Daniel Levy.

Tottenham have a history of selling on their most talented stars, with the likes of Luka Modric and Gareth Bale joining Berbatov and Carrick among top players who departed White Hart Lane in their primes.

Spurs have every chance of finishing in the top four this season, and the opportunity to play in the Champions League would likely keep Kane at the club.

However, should Spurs not finish in the top four, and United come in with a healthy offer and Champions League football, Kane could be tempted to move to Old Trafford.

Meanwhile, the Manchester giants are reportedly also set to miss out on signing Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy.

According to Dave Armitage in the Daily Star, the Foxes are looking to tie the Englishman to the club until 2019 by offering him a new contract worth £90,000 a week.

This could see United scuppered in their attempts to sign up the 28-year-old, who recently broke the record for scoring in consecutive Premier League games when he netted against the Red Devils, per Metro's Max Miller.

Vardy's form this season has been a major reason why Leicester currently sit top of the Premier League, and it would be a huge boon if they could keep him despite the interest from United.
