Klopp Comments on Henderson Injury
Monday, Jan. 4
"We have to wait," said boss Jurgen Klopp ahead of the Reds' Capital One Cup tie with Stoke, per James Pearce of the Liverpool Echo. "What's happened with the tendon is painful. There is blood around heel. We can't rush it."
Time for Reds to be Patient with Skipper
It’s been a campaign of huge frustration so far for Henderson, as he was on the sidelines for the majority of the opening weeks of the season.
While Liverpool have been making progress under the tutelage of Klopp, they’d be an even more fearsome prospect with the captain regularly in the side.
The former Sunderland man is tailor-made for the high-intensity, high-pressure football that the German wants his team to play. There are few more energetic players in the Premier League than Henderson, making his influence tough to replicate.
Thankfully for Klopp, he has plenty of players to call upon in this area. Emre Can is thriving under his guidance, James Milner is a consistent, industrious performer and Lucas Leiva has been revitalised this campaign. It’s sad to say, but the Reds have become used to getting by without Henderson.
While few will doubt the England international’s willingness to get back in the side, it’s important he takes his time with this latest issue and returns when he's back at full fitness. Any further time spent on the sidelines could see Klopp begin to plan for the future with Henderson as a peripheral figure.
