8 Impressive Streaks from the PGA Tour in 2015
The PGA tallies a range of interesting streaks (which isn't to be confused with the Presidents Cup streaker).
From consecutive birdies to holes without a three-putt, the tour dutifully tabulates the patterns of its players.
And while topping some of these lists may be mere trifles, stats like "consecutive rounds in the 60s" are an indication of overall quality of play, not just an episode of good fortune. This is clear from the guy who led the statistical category.
Click through for eight impressive streaks from the 2014-2015 season.
Consecutive Fairways Hit
1 of 8
Josh Teater: 34
Josh Teater, who competed in 11 tournaments on the PGA Tour in 2014-2015, found 34 fairways in a row. Unfortunately, poor putting and play around the green resulted in the Morehead State University alumnus missing six cuts.
Impressive as Teater's streak is, Jason Gore has already broken it in 2015-2016, finding the short grass 35 times in a row.
The best "fairways hit" streak recently? Ryan Moore hit 40 in a row in 2013.
Consecutive GIR
2 of 8
Mark Hensby: 31
So, Mark Hensby only played two PGA Tour events during the 2014-2015 season, which makes his streak of 31 greens hit consecutively even more impressive.
James Hahn has already surpassed Hensby's mark in 2015-2016, however, hitting 38 greens in a row. Crazy stuff! And not something the average golfer (for whom two or three greens in a row is an achievement) can relate to.
Consecutive Sand Saves
3 of 8
Brendon Todd: 15
The sand save leader on the PGA Tour last season got up and down 63.19 percent of the time. Brendon Todd, no slouch in sand saves at sixth on tour, rattled off an impressive streak of 15-straight conversions from the beach.
The best such streak in recent years: Brian Gay (17) in 2011.
1-Putt-or-Better Streak
4 of 8
Brandt Jobe: 16
Brandt Jobe was three better than anyone else on tour in terms of a streak of one-putts or better. Jobe must have been doing a great deal of putting on his carpet at home, as he teed it up just six times on the PGA Tour in 2014-2015.
The best streak of this kind recently: Cameron Tringale (19) in 2012.
Best Sub-Par Rounds Streak
5 of 8
Jordan Spieth: 17
No surprise here: The guy who won five times on the PGA Tour last year had an impressive streak of rounds under par, scoring machine that he is.
Consecutive Holes Below Par
6 of 8
Ryan Palmer: 8
Ryan Palmer really caught fire for a stretch of eight holes in the course of his 11-under 61 at the Humana Challenge. Palmer was 56th on tour in birdie average, so the Texan isn't known for filling the cup in abundance.
While several golfers have reached the eight plateau, only Mark Calcavecchia recorded nine consecutive under-par holes (2009) recently.
Active Consecutive Cuts Streak
7 of 8
Henrik Stenson: 30
While it's a far cry from Tiger Woods' 142 consecutive tournamentd without missing a cut, Henrik Stenson's 30 tournaments in a row without a missed cut is the longest current streak on tour. Only Sergio Garcia, at 26, is close.
The longest streak prior to Stenson: Adam Scott, whose 43-tournament long stretch came to an end at the Valspar Championship.
*As Stenson and Garcia's streaks are still active, we're including the number of tournaments up to the present rather than of the 2014-2015 season
Holes Without a 3-Putt
8 of 8
Freddie Jacobson: 542
We've saved the most impressive for last: Freddie Jacobson's streak without a three-putt. The Swede went a ridiculous 542 holes without three-putting in 2015. More than 200 more than the second-place streaker!
Jacobson led the tour in three-putt avoidance in 2014 as well. Simply put, the consummate grinder just doesn't three-putt.
