Jurgen Klopp Annoyed by Crystal Palace Loss in Early Liverpool Assessment

Rob BlanchetteDec 2, 2015

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has admitted his solitary defeat against Crystal Palace has soured his opening weeks at Anfield, despite the club being undefeated in his other nine games in charge.

Speaking before the Capital One Cup quarter-final at Southampton on Wednesday, the German reaffirmed his standards and refused to get carried away by his team's performance level, as quoted by Liam Blackburn of the Press Association (h/t the Daily MailWarning: Contains NSFW language): "Sometimes I would really like to change my personality, but I can't forget this f-----g loss against Crystal Palace. If we had won this, I would say it was OK."

LIVERPOOL, ENGLAND - NOVEMBER 08: Jurgen Klopp, Manager of Liverpool (L) argues with Alan Pardew, Manager of Crystal Palace during the Barclays Premier League match between Liverpool and Crystal Palace at Anfield on November 8, 2015 in Liverpool, England

The former Borussia Dortmund boss continued, explaining his thoughts as Liverpool go through a transitional phase, per Blackburn:

"

I think we've done not too bad until now. We give as much information as we could, as we should. With information, if I would say every day all the things I know, it is for sure too much.

It's timing, the right information is very important, of course. We don't want that they have to take their papers on the pitch. It's football.

We have to play football. This word 'playing' is everything that you need.

For this moment it's okay - maybe we could have done better but we never will know this.

We go on, we are not even at half of the way of the season, of our development.

We all think we have a long time together and we have always to do the next step.

Klopp's modesty and common touch underpin his talents as a coach, and the Merseyside club are already reaping the benefits of his stunning appointment.

The German is one of the elite coaches in world football, and there are already signs of revolution at Anfield, as the club look to claw back former glories.

Liverpool reside only six points behind leaders Manchester City in the league, and they are sneaking up on the rails as the top four swap places on a weekly basis.

The team are up to fourth in the Premier League form guide, ahead of City and Arsenal, and they look good for a charge on a Champions League finish in the the second half of the campaign.

The loss against Palace was a blip in form, but it proved to Klopp there are no easy games in the Premier League. Liverpool were exceptional as they dismantled Chelsea and City away from home, but the pressure at Anfield has often hindered the team in recent years.

However, Reds legend Jamie Carragher has been excited by what he has seen so far, and he commented after the victory at the Etihad, per John Richardson of the Daily Express: “The first 35 minutes was as good as I can remember. It was like watching the Red Arrows.”

LONDON, ENGLAND - OCTOBER 31: Jurgen Klopp (R), manager of Liverpool celebrates his team's 3-1 win with his player Mamadou Sakho (L) after the Barclays Premier League match between Chelsea and Liverpool at Stamford Bridge on October 31, 2015 in London, E

The tie against Southampton affords Liverpool their best chance of silverware this season, and the fans will not turn their noses up at the League Cup if they progress.

The competition would be a stepping stone to greater days under Klopp, as the German attempts to take his place among the club's legendary managers.

Philippe Coutinho has displayed the devastating form he threatened under ex-coach Brendan Rodgers, and Roberto Firmino appears to have settled after his exceptional performance at City.

As both Brazilians grow in tandem, Liverpool already have the foundation and creativity to beat most clubs in England.
